Re: Yemen crisis
Best information coming out of the area is that it's just Saudi special forces units and it looks like they're limiting themselves to tying down the airport (if I had to guess, to make resupplying their Yemeni proxies easier). Their main ground force components are still lounging around on the borde...

Re: Ukraine problems
Meh. Chernobyl is totally closed down and all the fuel is gone -- well, except for the stuff that's in the reactor that melted back in 86', but that's about as far gone as it can get. Besides, the whole place is built out of concrete and steel. I might worry about radioactive materials from the fall...

Re: Ukraine problems
The latest issue of The Economist alleges that the Russians are beginning to pull some of the same stunts in Kharkiv that they did in Donetsk. That would be less than ideal since that's also Ukraine's only tank factory. Elsewhere, the noises that Finland has been making about joining NATO are only g...

Re: NEW Werewolf WEB SERIES
So... Um... what's it about? Like, I get that there's a werewolf in it somewhere, but there's sort of painfully little other info. Always happy to see more werewolf films but maybe we could get some tidbits about the story too?

Re: Yemen crisis
Apparently thus far the Egyptians are only offering air and naval assets and some other support assets, not ground troops. The latest edition of the Economist says that the Egyptian General Staff are having some high level meetings about this and there are noises coming out of those meetings that th...

First transformation is extremely interesting. Would that be the one where he's in the bathroom in the bar, taking a leak? :D Favorite scene: He's locked in the cell at the police station and shapeshifts. He suddenly shoves his hand through the bars and the crazy gun-nut-guy stumbles backward -- th...

Re: Yemen crisis
I haven't heard about that, but I suspect it's just noise. If there's going to be a ground offensive, it's the Saudis that will be in charge. Egypt's amphibious capabilities are very limited. Their only option is to ship it across the Red Sea to Saudi, form up there and go across the land-border. Th...

Re: Wolf Cop (film). $1M budget.
Well, you two beat me to it. I just watched it last night. It's about what I expected. Then again, as a comedy it actually had a few genuinely funny moments -- y'know, a few. All in all, though it's an amusing film to watch only if you paid nothing to see it. Again: Thank God for Netflix.

Re: Yemen crisis
Houthi rebels they are still advancing air attacks are not cousing enough damage to stop their advancments coalition needs a new strategy to defeat them. Well, if the Saudis are smart, their "strategy" will generally revolve around not sending in any ground troops. The last time they did ...

Re: Yemen crisis
well i think things will get worse... "Worse" is a highly relative term -- particularly in that neck of the woods. I wholly agree that things will get worse there, but I don't see it as being something that will critically affect the rest of the world. Yemen is very isolated (both physica...

Re: Yemen crisis
Sorry, internet connectivity issues... Anyway, I don't really have too many worries about this whole thing. Yemen has been teetering on the edge of being a failed state for decades. The government in Sa'naa has always been more notional than national if you catch my drift, so it falling that last no...

Re: Vampire and werewolf
While vampires are entirely dependent upon a network which they will go to any means to protect, the werewolf survival strategy is to never become so dependent upon anything -- to never have any assets that they cannot immediately abandon should they become compromised, and to ensure that any misst...

If they want too be accepted faster they will need to socialise with us and here comes the problem vampires cannot go out during the day so they will be more or less limited on night life and social media... But, honestly, how much do you socialize at high noon? I don't think that's going to be the...

Not exactly on-topic, but... The thing that I would have liked to have seen with regards to the Underworld costumes is if the leg extensions had been full blown jump stilts. That would have been uber-awesome.

Re: Ukraine problems
The good news is that the cease-fire is (for the most part) appearing to finally have taken hold. The down-side is that this may merely be a lull before a new push to take Mariupol. Frankly I don't trust either Putin or the rebels one little bit, so I'd be inclined to lean towards that as being the ...

I agree that their equipment is not the best, but that's not so much of an issue as it might otherwise be -- The Russians have some of the same issues there. This is compounded in some instances by the fact that the Russians are not sending the rebels their best stuff. The Gadfly missiles that appar...

Re: Ukraine problems
Pretty darned unconfirmed if you ask me... The only noises about that sort of thing thus far seem to be coming solely out of the Russian media. They've been making noises about U.S. Humvees being seen in combat, but those appear to be part of a contingent of four dozen vehicles supplied to Ukraine a...

Re: Ukraine problems
Well, the "cease-fire" is apparently holding everywhere except Debaltseve and Mariupol. I supposed that there is hope (in western capitals at least) that it's a start and maybe they can finagle the separatists into finally backing off. In reality, that's going to depend in large measure up...

Re: Ukraine problems
Yeah. I had some slim hopes that it would hold, but it looks like the whole thing is collapsing because of the action at Debaltseve. Either Putin isn't serious (still), or he's lost control of the whole thing. If the cease-fire does fully collapse, I'd say it's about certain that the U.S. is going t...
