Special Effects artist. Just started my own company with a partner. However I still do commission work.
We make monsters and masks for individuals, theatres, movies, commercials etc.

I love the Realms of Enchantment masks and props, i'm just not too keen on their full suits.
But i'm always amazed to see such good quality as such a low price.
I was considering getting their fox mask ;)

Well, we make costumes for rich horror fans and low budget movies before furries. Furries tend to pay around the $2.4k mark on average. We really need to get the site overhauled and updated with a lot more stuff. It's got mostly my old theatre and larp masks on it at the moment. It will be happening...

Hey, all Brits say "cheers" instead of "thanks" and only 80% of the time do we have a beer in our hand ... but that's nothing to do with the word. ;)

I wonder why its expensive to make a suit like that. I know it gets even more expensive when its made for hollywood. Materials run up a lot of the cost, but most is your labour. People don't realise the time these things take to make. The general public expects a great costume at rock bottom prices...

Re: The Perfect Fursuit

I personally think Running Wolf don't charge enough for their costumes. They use a fur which is specifically woven for the product. You have to buy it by the roll (unless you find something to suit on clearance) and the average cost is $40 a sq/ft. This runs the basic materials cost up to $1,000s, b...

Post AC

Woo AC was a good con, I had a lot of fun. I had to miss the dinner, as i'd previously been invited to another, running at the same time held by some publishers I have connections with, and they were buying me free italian food :P Accommodation was fun - slept in a room with a load of strangers i'd ...

Well, I know the basics, but a lot of the suits requiring more muscle definition need to made in a way that requires no sewing machines. Only the toony mascot-y suits need them. And usually, I get people in to do it for me then, because I know they can do a quicker, better job than me. I stick to th...

I don't use papier mache, but don't worry - I fear the sewing machine too. I glue my fur on, you just need to be careful around the seams. My masks are sculpted, moulded and then cast in foam. But it's a pretty tricky process involving hazardous chemicals. Some people swear by chopping upholstery fo...

I think the adhesive you are thinking of is Spirit Gum, if you bought it from a local highstreet shop.
Not bad stuff, you can also buy remover if you don't feel like yanking it off your face, though the remover becomes more important when you progress to even stickier prosthetic glues.

Yea, the Laurell K Hamilton books are written from the point of view of a vampire lover. The werewolves aren't depicted in the best light, but that aside, the books can be fun. They don't touch on Robin Hobb in the slightest,. I do really recommend reading those. The good Laurell K content includes ...

Not strictly a werewolf book - but about a boy bonded to a wolf. I think these are the best books that I have ever read - the Robin Hobb "Farseer Trilogy" (Assassins Apprentice, Royal Assassin, Assassin's Quest). She really seems to capture the whole spiritual connection there in a way i'v...

My site is here:

http://www.primalvisions.com

But it's costumes, not art.

I do have a little art in my other site under the art section:

But it's not all finished yet.

Re: When is a furry not a furry? When you've escaped Azkaban

Therianthropy and the furries are closer than most therians will admit. The difference seems to be a preference for realistic mental and literal imagery. If a therian had the time, energy, and budget to make a fursuit, it would not be cute, but instead would look as close as possible to the real th...

Ah, yes, Terminator really was a CGI forerunner. And did you ever catch the kids cartoon Re-boot? Amazing graphics well ahead of it's time. Even some modern stuff doesn't compare. However bullet time is not CG. Completely different principle - although doing it badly can still give you something tha...

Since I work in the industry .....

I'd have to say, the best effects that I have seen so far are a blend of suits and CG. The two do not have to be mutually exclusive. One good example was Hellboy. True, a mediocre movie in terms of plot and substance - but the fish guy was amazing. A lovely creatire suit, with CG breathing and blink...
