You are correct, it is male lions that kill the offspring of other males. Lions also have a harem, meaning that they mate with as many females as they can.

It seems to me that the whole sex-scene thing is part of the movie “formula”. Many movies include such scenes for what appears to be no reason what so ever. Perhaps to appeal to a market segment I guess. If it furthers the plot then I am for it, tastefully done of course, otherwise leave the sex out...

I would say knee length or just slightly longer. Not enough to touch the ground. It really depends on the overall height of the werewolf. When on all fours it should look like a large wolf.
