Re: Actual plausible alternate forms

Haha, I remember reading that stuff back before I got an account.
I loved it! :D

Re: Actual plausible alternate forms

Haha, I always try to keep that in mind. I'll write up pages and pages of scientific back story and explanations just so I know how it all works, only to have my character have no clue what's happening.

Re: Actual plausible alternate forms

I've sort of refined the idea, making it less so to the normal person's wishes. So, I was thinking, maybe after the first few transformations the wolf-like characteristics begin to set in? I like your idea, it sounds plausible, even if it probably isn't - the best thing you need for a sci-fi setting...

Actual plausible alternate forms

This is a hard science approach, so I don't want any spiritual forms or astral projection. So, I want some input on what an actual plausible form would be for something like a werewolf. Let me explain a bit more. So the idea of a werewolf is to have some sort of alternate form that enhances physical...

Re: Heat transfer to energy for mass?

That's my point. It wouldn't be life as we know it, rather, something completely new altogether. Plausible, but incredibly hard to pull off making it look so. It was merely an idea. Perhaps not the one you were looking for, but hey, new input is what we're all here for right? Also, in both fission a...

Re: Heat transfer to energy for mass?

And even THEN we're still only talking about biological reactions. I remember reading an article once about how some organisms could be using nuclear reactions instead of chemical ones. Think of it this way. You have atoms. Some atoms are short an electron, making them prone to hooking up with other...

Transmission and Turning process

I've always wondered, what do other people think of the classical Hollywood stereotype of biting as a transmission, followed by a suspenseful wait for the next full moon, and then a drawn out and painful transformation sequence. So, how do your werewolves transmit the disease, if at all, and what is...

You're talking to someone who hasn't posted in 3 years.

Hooray for the oldest post necro in history! 2004... isn't that when the forum first started?
Oh well. It's my opinion, I felt like sharing it. :D

Re: What should a werewolf be?

The simple fact of the matter is that option 2 essentially requires the subject to grow whole new body parts using existing mass, without magical supplimentation. A thin person whom is very fit, really doesn't have much excess mass to draw from though, so that'd mean that muscle mass, existing bone...

Re: Heat transfer to energy for mass?

I was more showing that a lot of things use heat to power their reactions, and it isn't something that out there.
Take from it what you will.

Re: Heat transfer to energy for mass?

Endothermic reactions absorb heat to power the reaction. Sherbet takes heat from your mouth. When some sports injury packs are opened, they absorb heat from the injury, making quick ice-packs.
Also, just because they absorb heat, doesn't mean they have to absorb light as well.

Re: Heat transfer to energy for mass?

Still, there is something nifty about the heat thing, to my eye at least.
Then again, if done wrong, it could ruin a story.

Re: Heat transfer to energy for mass?

Well, according to Einstein, energy IS mass, so I don't see how it's so impossible. Also, to stop to in-depth research, you could perform a hand wave and just say that the werewolves have more important things to worry about then exactly how they get the mass from heat. Also, there could be differen...

Technological werewolves

This is more of a passing curiosity than a serious question. If you had, absolutely HAD to blend technology in with the werewolf condition, how would you do it? Genetic engineering? An already werewolf with cybernetic enhancements? Etcetera. You get the idea. So my question is, how would you blend i...

Re: What kind of were-creature would you like to be?

I'd have to go with a were-bald eagle. Gestalt. It'd have the fully formed eagle head, and wings, but the torso and legs would be human. 'Cept it would all be covered in feathers and instead of feet I would have those talons.
And some hands, somewhere, would be good.

Re: Healing abilities of weres?

So sometimes, as a result of a genetic defect or something similar, their healing abilities can glitch and not go to the specified "blueprint" of the body so to speak?
Sounds fair enough, but could you explain it some more detail?

Re: Healing abilities of weres?

See, in my story, werewolves are all of those. When the moon's full, they have full regeneration. And as it wanes, it get's closer and closer to human healing. The only constant thing about them is their werewolf form. It's always full powered, but it get's harder and harder to shift as the moon wan...

Healing abilities of weres?

I've always wondered, what would be the best type of healing ability for a werewolf? Now, for those of you who don't fully understand the poll, I'll explain it. Full regeneration is the ability to grow back limbs, leaving no scars or anything like that, and QUICKLY. Now, this is way out of the realm...

Re: Could a werewolf family be sophisticated?

Probably, But I think it depends more on your take on werewolves. For example, most people portray werewolves as more "get back to nature" types, with savagery and animal instincts. However, if you want to make that more of an undertone, I don't see why not. Although, they might have a pro...

Sounds like a book I'd read. I like the concept, especially with the wolf only being able to hint her.

How do you pronounce Gestalt?

Hey guys, I'm new here, so forgive me if this topic has already been covered.
My problem is how to correctly pronounce the word Gestalt. I've looked it up on the Web, and it's come up with several different pronunciations. Just wondering which one is better.

Cheers.
