One thing I always say is: "If you were already good at something, you wouldn't be needing to take classes." So, you shouldn't let your lack of current ability to impede you from taking the classes. Also, something my dance teacher said (paraphrased): "The best students I trained were...

Which brings us back to my meeting with Dr. Mech. He actually considers the delisting of wolves a positive step. He also is unconcerned about wolves being hunted for several reasons. First (these are all according to him, except when I say something wrong due to faulty memory :P ), wolves at the mom...

Hmmmmm... as fas as I know, it is based on a children's book illustrated by Tony DiTerlizzi. People who have played AD&D, early M:tG, or early W:tA might recognize his work. Here is his website http://www.diterlizzi.com/ I find his work pleasant, so I might go see this movie.

Ow! That is a hard one... Lessee... He studies wolves in a Arctic island, 200 miles from the North Pole. These wolves have never been exposed to humans (and associated dangers), therefore are much more comfortable around people. At one point early in the study, and when he was not sure just how comf...

It was really very instructive. Besides that, he also had some rather funny anecdotes to tell about the goofy things wolves occasionally do.

Actually, that notion of the omega has been around forever. The change in understanding that Dr. Mech advocates is that the omega position does NOT exist at all. The problem here is that the notion of the pack hierarchy, including the ideas of alpha and omega wolves, has been in the popular literatu...

Dr. David Mech

So, Dr. Mech, one of the most renowned wolf biologists in the world was in my university for a lecture. I got to spend a lot of time with him since I was the one who nominated him as a speaker and therefore got to organize most of event. Since our university is primarily composed of biologists (most...

It must be pointed out that it is NOT albinoism, since you wouldn't get the stripes and colored eyes in that case.

Isn't there an ad out there somewhere about underwear with tail openings? In stories, they're just boxers worn backwards. IRL, thsy are either semi-chastity belts for non-spayed females, or diapers/nappies for older, "leaky" animals. There is no reason for "tail vented" u...

Judging from the interviews with the filmmakers, the monster was just a baby that was lashing out in fear due to being separated from its mommy... Awwww, poor widdle cuddly city-destroying critter!!! Also explains why it doesn't always look scary >.> :P

I live in Manhattan, and quite liked the movie. I find New York critics are overly sensitive about anything that even remotely reminds them of 9/11. Actually, at least one scene took place only a few blocks from my home o.O

The problem is, of course, that wolves actively avoid signing in harmony, in order to give an appearance of large numbers.

But this reminds me that in one book by Tanya Huff, the werewolves were portrayed as big fans of opera :D

I absolutely agree that wikipedia is quite often not an accurate source, although it seems better moderated nowadays, so no offense taken. However, in this respect it is rather hard to distinguish fact from fiction since there would be a lot of Lovecraft-inspired works that people would try to sell ...

Wikipedia to the rescue again!!!! Directly quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necronomicon : The Necronomicon is a fictional book from the stories of horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was first mentioned in Lovecraft's 1924 short story "The Hound", written in 1922, though its purport...

Ouch... that is a much worse ending than the book indeed, IMHO...
We don't see them get clear of the mists in the book either, but the main guy thinks he heard something on the radio, the name of a place, and the story ends with him whisperin 'Hope' to his sons ear.
Roughly the di...
