Re: control in WW form

Lastly, the matter of control in and of itself, it's really just a comparison between an idea and a reality, it's easy to discuss it as a story plot device and forget all about what and why it really is. Generally when I talk about "losing control", what I mean is a person who doesn't do ...

Re: control in WW form

its all in personality of person being turned. Right, which is what I was saying. If a person retains full control when changed, the most sensible people would simply stay locked up in their room. They're going to be sleeping most of the night anyway, so it's only a few hours of inconvenience. If a...

Re: control in WW form

Depends on the story ultimately, but in general I'd go for little to medium control. Too much control, and you essentially just get a guy in a fur coat. It doesn't really do much to represent the monster/animal side if all that happens is the person grows fur but remains largely the same mentally. T...

There's also going to be werewolves in the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online:

(source video)

You will be able to become one, but there's not much information on how it will all work.

Re: A beautiful werewolf?

Also, isn't the true definition of the word 'werewolf' a combination between man and wolf? How the hell does that work as a seperate species? If it combines the dominant features of man and wolf, it could be called a man-wolf. Even if it's not biologically related to wolves and/or humans, it can st...

Or someone who was either turned against their will (or was willing but severely regretted it afterward) and wanted revenge on the whole group.

Re: A beautiful werewolf?

I agree absolutely about the mysterious, but I think the magical is part of the problem. Hollywood doesn't see the werewolf as anything more than a hokey relic from the Bella Lugosi era, so they refuse to take it seriously. I think there's also been too much focus on answers, not just with werewolv...

Re: The Downsides to Lycanthropy

The most plausible drawbacks would be the huge work it would impose on trying to live among normal people. It would be a big part of one's life, but something one could not share except within very limited circles. If you picture lycanthropy forcing shifts during full moons or during times of emoti...

Re: Texas Republicans trying to make being gay illegal

That is not to say that I believe Church and State should be entirely separate. Church, on the basis of the teachings and not the people who have fouled up religion, teaches morals and values. Both of which are necessary for making the laws of a government. You do not need a religion in order to te...

There's also an impressive looking cinematic that the beta got (I guess it can be considered spoilerish? don't think it really reveals anything that's not already known, but I guess a warning is still in order if you want to see it in game first) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1921vEfD0s Also an in...

Re: Could a werewolf family be sophisticated?

I don't mean to get this discussion too far off topic, but I'm going to have a hard time perceiving that as being a good book since you just described something eerily similar to the way Twilight was conceived. Stephanie Meyers had no framework when she originally set out to write: all she knew tha...

Re: Could a werewolf family be sophisticated?

You'd also have to question how it is that a vampire was able to dwell in the sewers without being seen or having enough bodies / missing persons pile up to get the FBI on his case. Yeah, that tends to be a problem with any supernatural critter that can't fully hide themselves... the longer they're...

Re: Could a werewolf family be sophisticated?

If you intend to fight the stereotype by throwing in a "well that's just how its done, don't question it" explanation, it won't hold for much longer than it takes a young detective / Matt Damon wannabe to shoot the vampire. I wasn't implying a hand-waving, "just because" explana...

Re: Could a werewolf family be sophisticated?

No, there wouldn't be anything wrong with it. Apart from the resulting fridge logic when the audience asks why this poor lower-class vampire doesn't become rich by trying any of the above-mentioned practices. Depends on how they're portrayed. The suave, in-control, group-oriented vampire surely cou...

Yeah, I think that's the heart of the disagreement here. I don't see it as the business interests getting special treatment. These conferences are somewhat akin to diplomatic summits in some ways (although obviously not in the technical sense -- I doubt State Department was even involved in these t...

Re: I should not read or watch the news

I still hold that it has an historical basis in the legal concept of theft because it's like theft in some important ways. Give me that at least. In older times, perhaps. There was more financially at stake to the copyright holder (as printing presses were expensive, and you had to pay the governme...

Re: I should not read or watch the news

The legal concept of theft also remains the historical basis for all copyright laws prior to 1985. Enforcement against unauthorized reproductions actually has case law going back to English Common Law, and statutes specifying copyright didn't come into existence until 1709. Prior to that, there is ...

I have bought stuff I had previously obtained. In fact, I had bought that stuff because I had previously obtained it. I was able to try it, found that I enjoyed it, and wanted to reward the creators. If you download a piece of intellectual property, I'm just guessing that you're not going to then go and buy a copy of whatever that was. There's a couple points to this. First, that's not true. Oh no... are we STILL going by the rule that werewolves would die the minute they so much as lick cauliflowers? Wouldn't really peg a werewolf as being an herbivore*, myself. But still, considering the amount of food it would be eating, going through gardens or crops would probably raise a similar ...

The people who are getting nailed are the ones who are downloading a lot of music, videos, games, etc. That's the equivalent of shoplifting thousands of dollars worth of CDs from a "brick and moartar" store. You steal thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, and it is NOT a civil matter...

Australia really scares me. I once thought England/UK was bad when it came to protecting yourself and your property, but AU seems to have taken that crown.
