Re: What to do with those who claim to be Werewolves

I certainly understand the irritation with the assorted granola parading around the Internet calling themselves "Werewolves". In fact, online it's hard to tell just who you're talking to so it's next to impossible to differentiate between roleplayers, wannabees, and actual Therians. That's...

Re: When did the idea of non evil werewolves come from?

Theiss was a member of a larger group of werewolves like himself who were known to benefit their community. Such werewolves were members of a larger group of Christian shamans called Benandante. Before the 15th century, Werewolves were no better or worse than any other groups. There were good Werewo...

Re: What to do with those who claim to be Werewolves

The Therian Community was founded in 1993 as an product of a Werewolf Fansite called AHWW (Alternate Horror Werewolf). For at least 10 years, they called themselves Werewolves, Were - (otherthings), and Weres. That's probably why the older Therians still call themselves "Werewolves". I per...

Aye, yer right. Datura is bad stuff. You're also right that LSD is an ergot analogue. Still, ya'll aren't addressing the primary question - why choose the ergot theory over all the others out there. Frankly, I've talked to several sociologists and anthropologists (one of my minors was in social psyc...

Hands are more "evolutionarily" sensible. In other words, anything creation process that would tend toward an optimal Werewolf would produce a four footyed beingwith paws and a two footed being with hands. My own personal vision of a werewolf has him being able to choose, to a large extent...

The physical voice aparatus changes (drastically); therefore, the voice should be expected to change. A human doesn't have "a voice". They have several kinds of voice. A voice teacher talks about chest tones, throat tones, and head tones. The vooice mechanism has several different parts: a...

I can second it. The camp for people with disabilities that I worked with was also an animal rehabilitation center and they had some foxes. Foxes (the males anyway) smell sorta like skunks. But then, some of us don't find that particularly offensive (as long as they're "smelling like" and ...

Renorei, I think that's an important (and very perceptive) answer. I don't mean "there's less reason to believe that they do have self awareness." (Why would that be?). But that ornamentaion, for a wolf might not be visual (or more accurate - symbolic). Perhaps wolves display empathic orna...

Wait. Let me try a much weaker version of the same question: Is there any reason at all to even suspect that wolves do not have at least as highly developed a sense of self as Humans? I can think of only one study and it's so flawed that I'm amazed that so many psychologists acually take it seriousl...

My queston, Ultraken, was whether there is any valid reason to believe that wolves do not have as highly a developed sense of self as Humans. I'm certainly aware that many Humans do not believe that they do but that's rather irrelevant to my question. And, Ralith, you're right. Dogs, being neotenous...

Good posts. But I wonder if a Werewolf like the one in Howling Mad (a wolf bitten by a Werewolf) would develop the aesthetic sense of body ornamentation. Parallel question - maybe relevant - is there any valid reason to believe that wolves don't have as completely a developed sense of self as a Huma...

Boy! That seems more convoluted than I would have thought. For instance, are wolves "people". If not, why? And if so, those normal people don't seem too interested in body ornamentation. So why would Werewolves lean in the Human direction rather than the Wolf direction on this? In fact, wh...

Y'know. Now that you mention it, I'm trying to wrap my mind around why a werewolf (of all things) would go in bigtime for body decorations and other cosmetics - you sure wouldn't expect a wolf to do such a thing. Tribal markings? - but they're empaths, they shouldn't need artificial markngs any more...

Let's listen in on the thoughts of this Javanese Wiggie Mouse minutes before the tsunami hit. "Where's all these humans going? Oh, look, the water is way out there. THat's really weird. Are they nuts? - standing around on the beach - that's too weird. I think I'll go this other way....." B...

Adinkidu...adinkidee....adinkidoooooooooo Anyway, the only thing that would lead to the conclusion that Enkidu was a Werewolf was that he was shaggy. The Mesopotamians knew what wolves were. If Enkidu was in some way similar to a wolf, why didn't they say so? All the pictorial references I've been a...

THat's another thing I don't understand. I've been all over Gilgamesh and I have yet to find a Werewolf. Inkidu is the closest I've been able to find but the Epic doesn't indicate that he's in anyway related to wolves. In fact, old pictures make him look like he might be related to those winged bull...

Although this board is a bit of an innovation, the idea behind it isn't new by any means - it's called a focus group - and it can backfire if not done correctly. When people say, "Werewolf" today, they're thinking about someone that physically changes into a Wolf but in the early Middle Ages the term was applied to real people who _were thought_ to change into wolves. Whether they did or not, the term was applied to a group of real people (and stil...
