Re: Werewolf Lifespan?
*nods* Animals don't grow old in the wild because once they even start to show signs of their age, they fall behind; the herbivores that can't outrun the carnivores get eaten, and the carnivores that can't run down the herbivores go hungry. The wild is also more cut-throat, though, with a comparati...

People getting arrested for downloading music: You download intellectual property in violation of copyright, YOU ARE COMMITTING A CRIME! If you're too fragile to handle prison, DON'T BREAK THE LAW! There is, though, this little thing called excessive punishment. Copyright violations are a civil mat...

Re: Police try to kill a man for absolutely nothing
I agree that the story sounds fishy, if for no other reason than the amount of dramatic flare put into the writing. When Angela heard about the way they were treated she was furious! Call it a mother's protective instinct or whatever, she did not like someone abusing their position of power and inti...

The best part is that they're also trying to outlaw Sodomy. Especially funny considering the Supreme Court already declared laws against sodomy are unconstitutional. And guess where that case came from (hint: it's abbreviation is TX). Sodomy, for those that don't know - or are under the false under...

a post's user info is now on the right instead of the left That's due to the theme being derived from "prosilver" (one of the default themes) of which has the user information on the right. It can be modified, but I'll wait for further input by others. I don't know how much of it is modif...

Re: Server Migrated
Cool. :) As for the new theme, I do have a few issues with it. In particular, a post's user info is now on the right instead of the left, which makes it difficult to quickly associate a given post with its user (you start reading on the left, so you have to force yourself to look to the right to see...

Re: Texas Republicans trying to make being gay illegal
And you are quite correct, our government is here to protect minorities from getting run over by the majority, however of late many minority groups have used loop holes, per say, to force their own agendas on the majority... This leads to communism. The reality is, we have keep things balanced, or ...

Re: Texas Republicans trying to make being gay illegal
Let's look at California for example. Gay Marraige was left to the vote of the people (and it should). No, it should not. Why should a simple majority be able to dictate exactly what rights a minority group is allowed to have? That is not the way our government works, nor should it be. Majority Rul...

Re: Werewolf marathon!
The amount of times it has happened is irrelevant. The bottom line is that it 'DID' happened. I can call it "character development" because V.Helsing is a 'character' in the movie. And since he didn't start off as a werewolf but became one later on, that qualifies as the 'development' par...

Re: Werewolf marathon!
A brief appearance by an unknown in a Santa suit 'IS NOT' same thing as a major character developement of one of the stars. I wouldn't say Van Helsing's lycanthropy is "major character development" (kind hard to find any character development in that movie, actually :P). It was actually r...

Also what's with this whole favoring of guns thing? Whatever happened to the advice for people who CAN'T use guns? Because firearms are ranged and ranged combat is superior for a number of reasons, the primary being "zombie/werewolves can't eat me if I'm fifty feet away shooting them dead.&quo...

Re: Regarding 'Freeborn'
I wouldn't say it's dead, but I wouldn't necessarily say anything will happen soon, either. Sometimes movies just sit around doing nothing for years upon years, until something happens to get the ball rolling (Avatar should be a good example for how movies can sit in purgatory until several years do...

Re: What makes a werewolf an interesting werewolf
Except for the fact that Posting of the Hunt merely mentions "hounds" which could be anything . Indeed, there are "lesser" and "Greater" hounds, not all of which can be werewolves (and the term werewolf is not used once). But "hound" is almost always associat...

Re: Respect towards atheists
You overlooked a rather important chunk of the definition there. By Webster itself as you cited, faith is also a firm belief for something for which there is no proof. The key word there is firm . Faith is a firm belief , not just any belief. Atheism does not provide proof that their is no higher p...

Re: Respect towards atheists
Atheists do not believe in the existence of God, gods, goddesses, or anything of the divine nature. This is, without, question a religious belief Okay, I'll have another go. Merriam-Webster... Religious: 1 : relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity <...

Re: Respect towards atheists
Okay, FWIW I'll concede the point on atheism's definition since I can't be bothered to look for anything else of some authority. However, the definition of agnosticism you gave doesn't preclude a person still believing or disbelieving in god.Uniform Two Six wrote:Webster's Encyclopedic Dictionary trumps Wikipedia.

ALSO as for the violence of the Bible... AGAIN... oh gosh... you people... You are chasing straws because you are again taking things out of their context. You are basing very liberal laws of today vs. laws for a time and period that is NOT like ours. Think about it this way. 80 years ago, if a man...

Re: Respect towards atheists
No, atheism is the lack of a belief in god, not a belief in the lack of god. Uh, sorry dude, but you're totally talking out of your a** there. You've got it exactly backward. Atheism is the affirmative belief that there is no such thing as God. Should probably look that up . "Atheism can be th...

Re: Respect towards atheists
And for the record, Atheism does count as a religion. Religion is a product of faith, and faith is the belief in things without proof. Christians believe in the existence of God, while Atheists believe in the lack thereof. No, atheism is the lack of a belief in god, not a belief in the lack of god....

Re: Respect towards atheists
Oh yes it is. Not an organized religion, but still a system of belief not much different from any other. 'Lack of belief in x' does not mean 'Belief in lack of x'. Agnosticism is the belief(!) that you can't prove God's existence. Atheism is simply the lack of theism (note the a- prefix, meaning Th...

Re: What makes a werewolf an interesting werewolf
It was interesting, and it wasn't werewolves for the sake of werewolves.. if you took out the werewolves, you'd need to change a good portion of the expansion's story (or redo it completely). Not really. I really don't see how Bloodmoon is any different from Dog Soldiers or Being Human in regards t...

Re: What makes a werewolf an interesting werewolf
For the werewolf aspect of a character to be interesting, the story needs to be about the fact that he's a werewolf. That only seems logical. If the focus is on something else, then obviously that fact will be glossed over. Same thing with vampires. Actually, every good story about the supernatural...

I apologize if this isn't the best place for this topic, but I couldn't think of the best place it fit and it does tie into what a werewolf would be. So.. This one's aimed at the writers/storytellers out there, though input from others is welcome. :) How do you make a werewolf character interesting,...

Re: James Cameron's Avatar
Maybe I'm just weird, but complaining about the religious preferences of aliens seems like an even more drastic leap of stupidity to me. God is supposed to be universal, not human-specific. If there was a sentient race of alien creatures, it would be just as much of an affront for them not to belie...
