Just because science and medicine don't know everything, it doesn't mean that they don't know anything (false dichotomy). While I like listening to Coast to Coast AM, not everything is a government or corporate conspiracy. :D

15-20% isn't all that much. Most people could easily double their muscle mass (100% increase) and stay well within human limits. Would I consider myself super-strong if I could lift twice as much? Definitely not. Doubling muscle mass wouldn't double overall weight. I don't have a good figure f...

While this could lead to "talking animal" syndrome if done poorly, it would show that werewolves in wolf form are still intelligent. I don't mind it, as I'd rather have "werewolves aren't monsters; they're people"--regardless of form.

Most of us agree that the gestalt form's overall body traits would be determined by their human form. Just thought I'd mention that. I had noticed that, yes. It is the degree to which they would change that we differ on. Fair enough. My only point was the degree of change should be substantial but ...

I was trying to look at the problem another way. I agree with you that the gestalt form's face and ears should be mostly lupine/canine, as those together provide most of the distincive "wolflike" appearance. A wolf's head is already fairly sizeable, though, so just scaling it up won't work...

My impression is that Homeopathic treatments do nothing but harness the Placebo Effect; the remedy itself is no more effective than water. However, that alone is very powerful, as believing that something will heal you tends to make it at least partially effective. Still, ascribing the benefits to &...

*snrk* :D Even for a paranormal/supernatural effect, there ought to be at least some biological component, the natural-world "shadow" of what is going on. Since the whole changing-shape thing is physiologically implausible to begin with, there has to be something "more" going on ...

Ouch, it's getting ugly in here. Quentin would be fine if his human form were fairly large and strong as well. The same goes for Van Helsing werewolf. That style is too large for a "normal" build human form, in my opinion. Neither of them is wrong , but neither of them should be typical , ...

Ooh, I thought of something. The "sculpted" muscular build is an artificial product of civilization, as it requires carefully-controlled nutrition and exercise in combination with proper genetics. Until relatively recently, such a thing would be virtually impossible. In "the wild"...

Ten seconds is not that short a time, though--try counting out ten seconds while (say) watching an action movie. A lot can happen in ten seconds. Twenty to thirty can seem like an eternity if it interrupts the flow of action. It'd be a different matter if the change weren't incapacitating, but that'...

While "bitten" werewolves lack the lifetime of experience as a werewolf, "born" werewolves lack the lifetime of experience as a normal person. The two are somewhat complementary, and each is better at some things. There would be a "cultural divide" between the two, much...

It's partly a style thing and partly a genre convention--werewolves embody and exaggerate the things we fear about nature and about ourselves. Because wolves (like all predators) fairly strong and dangerous for their size, we grant werewolves even greater strength and danger. However, each individua...

A hybrid wouldn't necessarily have to be twice the size of either form, as much of the mass could be common--we do share a fair amount of biology and structure with animals, after all. The amount of "extra" mass available is pretty much an arbitrary constant; I picked 25-50% of human-form ...

I am not in favor of a human skull, with a muzzle attached. I am in favor of a wolf skull, with a muzzle attached. IMO, the former would look stupid. You'd get more of an anthro/furry look, which works fine for gestalt form, if not wolf form. Properly blending the facial structure and moving the ea...

I gave up on trying to treat werewolves scientifically a decade ago, as it's just easier to chalk it up to something paranormal. And that's coming from Mr. Science Nerd, so that's saying a bit. The running joke when I was in college was that werewolves had to pull mass from somewhere , so we ...

Shifting should be quick, unless it's the's the person's first shift. Then play it out for all it's worth. Agree with you there. "First Change" should be relatively slow and melodramatic, as it's usually a major plot point. Even then, don't drag it out for five minutes. This isn't porn , ...

Total Photoshop. I've seen websites full of that stuff. :D

(There are some big guys, true, but that image is pure photomanipulation. The file name is kind of a giveaway...)
