Re: James Cameron's Avatar
There was also a lot of indirect references to the story of Zhuangzi dreaming that he was a butterfly. And I agree with PariahPoet; I've heard most of the lessons taught by this movie before. Even so, the way that James Cameron presented it all was breathtaking.

Re: Satire is funny
There is no historical physical evidence to suggest Jesus existed. Same with Socrates. We only have secondary sources for him, such as Plato's writings. Yet we do know that he was executed, and it's reasonable to assume that he existed. Same with Jesus; there's the writings of Josephus, and there a...

Re: Satire is funny
Funnily, in that same part where they say being gay is wrong they also say men should not cut your hair. So it makes me lol whenever I see a clean shaven man trying to advocate that. What's even funnier is that the Bible contradicts itself on this rule: "'During the entire period of his vow of...

if you think that people are stupid for believing in something that the website you have posted on so much on that, in a way does support it, then why are you on it? yes i understand that this site is for fans not believers. but in order to be a fan, mustn't you also have some notion that there is ...

Re: Crashing the White House -_-
No it was a public function, technically (closed to the general public, to be sure) but if people who do not have standing authority to demand entry to the White House (like the Indian dignitaries), are given blanket authorization to enter, then legally it is a public function. That's why they can'...

Re: Swiss voters back ban on minarets
I think Aki has made the most intelligent post in this debate so far. Cultures cannot be regulated. They can be affected by outside events, such as political legislation, but they can't be controlled except unjustly. I'm not advocating for multiculturalism here, but there should not be a problem wit...

Re: Swiss voters back ban on minarets
So basically, 43% of Swiss voters in the decision, standing up for 4% of the population, lost. I hate majority rule. I agree, this is sad. EDIT: I've figured this out mathematically. 23% of the total population of Switzerland (equivalent to 30.5% of the total voting-age population of Switzerland) ca...

Re: Crashing the White House -_-
Actually, it would be tresspassing on U.S. Government (not private) property, but there's a catch: The State Dinner is technically a public function. If it wasn't a public function, wouldn't it be fine for the government to charge them with trespassing? It is technically private property, in the se...

There's really no point to the "Hai I'm back guyz didja miss me" threads. It's just calling out for attention. When someone returns they'll be seen posting around, they don't need to point it out to everyone. I agree, and we also have a "General Announcements and Updates" sticky...

Re: Situation Report??
I think the title of the section "What should a werewolf be?" is itself imposing. It implies that no other opinions about werewolves will be tolerated except those decided by the majority rule of The Pack ages ago. It's a bit close-minded to say what a werewolf "should" be. We ca...

Re: National Transgender Day of Remembrance
This is probably a bad time to find some dark humor in this, but what if our society becomes so tolerant of other lifestyle choices that people will get murdered for the most trivial of reasons, just because some people want to feel superior to others? "Hey, that guy doesn't put jelly on his to...

To answer your question, yes, I would prefer that they be hunted, as sad and infuriating as it may be. There you have it, ladies and gentlemen, a Pack member who'd sacrifice wolves for the sake of an over-romanticized ideal. I rest my case. I have a question about this point of the debate. Since mo...

Funny how everyone here is carrying on a conversation about Wolf Gal behind her back and whether she should own a wolf, and she's not even replying. I don't think we should jump to conclusions until we at least hear her side of the story (although I will admit, some assumptions might prove to be tru...

I like it so far, although it doesn't feel like much has changed. At least we're not using the Facebook method of radically changing something every couple of months for no apparent reason when everyone was just getting used to the old version.

I didn't get the lead role that I wanted in a school's production of The Wiz . I got a worse role in this than the role I had gotten in their previous musical. I know that it's part of being an actor, and I'm really happy for the guy that got the role I wanted, but it still stings. Especially since ...

Re: Beginning of the dull society?
Schools need better teachers and better teaching methods, not more school. More of the same thing won't help.
It's times like these that I'm glad I go to a private school. Now excuse me while I go bash my head into a wall and study for my massive AP US History unit test on Tuesday. Ugh.

Re: WAL-MART Smash!
The problem with monopolies is that they do work. They work very well. That's why there are laws in effect to prevent them. If monopolies collapsed on their own simply from the magic of capitalism, then congress wouldn't care. Hey, if Starbucks can crash and burn, why not Wal-Mart? One could also a...
