Werewolves always have tails when in formal attire, along with the top hat, cummerbund, and spats. The stick is optional.
Informally, (Tuxedos) tails are optional. Remember: white jackets* after the Spring Equinox, and black jackets after Halloween.
Of course, suits are acceptable in any situation.

*Unless in Mourning; term is usually three months.
