Full wolf or half wolf?

Post by Distorted Realism »

What do you think? should a werewolf be full wolf where the werewolf goes from human to wolf. or from human to a wolf- human hybrid?

The word you're searching for (and don't worry, I hadn't applied it to the anthropomorphisized form before I found this place, either) is "gestalt."

And a two-legged wolf with usable hands is just :lovestruck:
The wind whipping past my face...
The underbrush combing through my fur...
The earth flying beneath my paws...
Am I alive?

I think your most common response to "other" is going to be "both." It was for me anyway.

The half-wolf form is most of what makes werewolves interesting to me. I don't care too much for full-wolf form.

full wolf just doesn't seem right

i mean

were= man
wolf= wolf

manwolf! it is supposed to be a hybrid

besides a full wolf form would be very limiting (no thumbs espiecially)

The idea of Half-Wolf had me stumped there for a minute. Which half? Upper? Lower? 50% out of the middle? Split down the middle on either side?

My vote went for "other" or Gestalt: the Upright Wolf adapted for bipedalism.

That's called a "Panic-Shift" and there are lots of citations on it.

I still see as a "half-wolf" either a guy with a normal upper body and funny feet and a tail, fur covered from the waist down; or a Wolf upper section on skinny legs and a beer belly.

But then I get silly sometimes...

Actually the Germaic term for werewolf or... wer-wolf was used to describe a man (woman) who could turn into a wolf (full wolf). In most of the European legends, at least the ones I've studied, the person would become a full wolf. Sometimes people would see a wolf rise on its hind legs, or talk with other wolves, while they stood on their hind legs, but all in all they still were completely wolves... The "Gestalt" forms we would later see rose largely from Hollywood creation...

As for what I prefer... As a writer... it really depends on the type of story... In HOD my werewolves can take on various versions of each form, depending on their needs and circumstances. I thought of the forms to be sort of a camoflage. In my mythology they are really neither man or wolf, but an entire race of their own, but have the ability to blend into either species as needed...

In the "Wolf Prince" a man gets turned completely into a wolf, as it is a much more dramatic transition...

The half-wolf appearance has existed for a very long time in folklore, such as the Vilkacis from the Baltics and the wulver of Scotland. Even from the Germanic term, the ulfhednar, which likely created much werewolf lore, would not likely have been seen as either full-wolf or full-man, but something inbetween.

Pretty Much. 3 forms: human, wolf and werewolf.

Wolfwere? Interesting thought... how would they behave in the human world? They'd probably act like a wolf in a human body and draw a lot of attention, especially with the clothing issue...

I generally always picture both.
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

Ahhh, pity the poor Wolf were; for most of the month he is a normal wolf, a member of a nice moderate suburban pack; with a mate and two and a half puppies.
On the Dark of the Moon, and on the nights on either side of it ( three nights total) he turns into the dreaded Wolf were and works a 'phone bank as a telemarketer in aluminum siding.
There is no cure for this dreaded affliction, save the lethal plastic bullet at the hands of an angry customer.

I think the shifter should, at least with some practice, be able to "stop" anywhere along the man-to-wolf-and-back range, dependent upon the needs of the moment.

Actually, i've read about this in a, you say anything about this, I'm not talking to anyone here ever again, in a ...paranormal romance novel. Sherrilyn Keenyon, i believe is her name. In her story there are Arcadians, and Werehunters. The Werehunters are animals with the hearts of humans, and the Arcadians are humans with the hearts of animals. The werehunters are animals that turn into humans, while the arcadians are the reverse, basically wereanimals. They also happen to be bitter enemies, trying to kill each other... nice ain't it? Read Night Play, if you're over eighteen or eighteen, and are interested. It's a romance novel. It has mating in it, but it's not that bad of a read.

and yes, i'm straight.

You should also read Touch of Evil and Touch of Madness. Also has not for younger people material in them, but they're really good.

I'm going to go slink off now to another thread...

And i had to change the words i was using because they weren't showing up...
No what you have are bullets in the hope that when your guns are empty I'm no longer standing. Because if I am, you'll all be before you've reloaded.

Im a big fan of the 5 forms:

Human
Human with wolfish aspects
Half/Combined/Gestalt
Mostly wolf but still humanoid
Wolf

I do like the partial changes quite a bit. But really my favorite are the ones who go from man to wolf; the simple shapeshifters.
