I started with pop...then progressed to rock. And now at 14 I love metal! "System of a down" inpeticular...and now my parents think I'm going evil! I'm just being what a true Lycan is....free. And it surprised me :o that you mentioned the war part on metal because I do go on about the subject quite often...I'm not for war or anything, don't get me wrong. But I do love the mixture of Metal and Lycanthropey

But its the pesonality of the werewolf in question :headbanger:

What about alternative? I chose rock because...well rock is my second favorite genre of music. I don't think every werewolf would like metal, I think it would depend on their personality. Whatever they liked as a human they would probably like as a werewolf. :music:

I chose "rock" because it's the most all-encompassing term of those available, therefore the closest thing to "depends on the individual" or "varies from werewolf to werewolf" in the available options. Metal, punk and about 9/10 of all emo could easily all have been included in the rock category.

My suspicions are that whatever the Wulf is into as a Smooth, they'll be into that when fuzzy and toothy.
Music is something that is a part of you, like an earlobe.

There is one type of music that I simply cannot concieve a Werewolf liking:
70's "bubble music" that we now hear in elevators and such. It might actually repel them.

"Get back, Beast; or I'll turn on Simon and Garfunkle!"
(Beast backs away, trying not to vomit)

Heh I've noticed some people change their earlobes quite frequently.

Maybe some of them would like Sontata Arctica (I looked them up and apparently they are a metal band). Lots of wolf songs from them. Perhaps a werewolf would have a better chance of understanding the lyrics in stuff like that, I always have to look them up because I can never pick out the words through all the screaming and loud instruments.

Being that the tribal theme is so popular with WWs, has anyone here considered groups like This Morn Omina? They're a Belgian group who has a sort of techno-tribal feel to them. They have several albums available on places like Amazon.

Emo music? What that? LOL
There is also the possibility that they don't listen to music at all. While regular people can listen to certain sounds that is pleasing to them, other sounds for werewolves can be intolerable to them, if they have such enhanced hearing. Also, music could be representative to the constructed world they may want to lead away from. It all depends on the individual, as so many have elaborated on. I would think that music is a release for me. Just listening to the stuff lets me go somewhere else in my head. But, for a werewolf, they may find that somewhere else...in a different form.

Ok. Thanks for all the responses. A few things though.

I did say that I know it would depend on what they liked as a human. I know this so why do I have three posts telling me it?

Also when I say rock I mean things like “Saliva” and “Papa roach”. I know it vague but I couldn’t think of a better name. Also Emo is things like My Chemical Romance and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.

Music to soothe the savage beast...

Perhaps Im biased but I chose Punk. C'mon. It's the outcasts of society! It's all about rebelling and being different and it's loud and dirty and no one would look at you twice if you were at a punk show with torn clothing, dirt on your face and a five o'clock shadow. They fit right in.

Interesting topic: music plays a big role in my werewolf's character, actually. I chose rock in the poll. As a matter of fact, my werewolf character has her own playlist on my iPod. Sad, yes, but I love the same type of music. I also made a "soundtrack" to the novel I'm writing as well. "Versa's Playlist" is a ton of hard rock, popular rock, anything driving, angry, and primal. Here's some artists from the playlist so you understand:

Lacuna Coil, Skillet, Seether, FireFlight, Three Days Grace, Within Temptation, Breaking Benjamin, +44 (they have a song that's totally unrelated to wolves called "Lycanthrope"), Evanescence, Red, Chevelle, SR-71, Linkin Park, Paramore, 32 Leaves, Hourcast, Trapt, Saosin, Midnight to Twelve, Submersed, Alexisonfire, Course of Nature, Hoobastank, Audioslave, 30 Seconds to Mars, Bullet For My Valentine, etc.

That's what I listen to essentially. I know as a character, Versa is at her most basic element a darker side of me in a body that I look nothing like, so it's kind of a "Mary Sue" decision to make her like the same music I do. But then again, I don't think it's a "fallback" option: it makes perfect sense. It seems like the consensus is that rock would be a werewolf's favorite. I actually wrote a whole chapter in Vengeance that dealt with music (it comes up a lot. I'm a big music fan/band geek, so I found a way to make it work). Good, heavy rock (especially one in a minor key) can be really emotionally afflicting, and with proper instrumentation and climaxes in the music, it's enough to just make you want to let loose and "AWWWWOOOO!"

Posting a whole excerpt is kind of unnecessary, but if you want, feel free to scroll to the very end of Chapter 10 of my novel; you'll see how Versa reacts to some awesome hard rock-n'-roll. Headbanging werewolves - now THAT would be awesome. :headbanger:

Exactly, but maybe once they're werewolves and have enhanced hearing/instincts/etc. their likes would change. I know mine have over the years!

Here's how I went with my music tastes:

Age 6: For some reason I really got into country, mainly Garth Brooks
Age 7-15: Pretty much just pop or whatever my parents listened to.
Age 15: Was introduced to Metal (and MP3s in general) by some friends. Started liking SOAD, Disturbed, Gsmack, Linkin Park, Metallica
Age 16-ish: Started into other groups as well: Green Day, U2, Perfect Circle, Chevelle, Hoobastank. Got my music taken away a lot (because of the heavier stuff).
Age 18: Was still into Metal, but my tastes grew darker, heavier, and louder (Slipknot). Got an external HD and got a lot of music that way. Also got into Rap (Eminem, Tupac). My teens were dark and rebellious--I don't recommend the harder stuff to anyone)
Age 19-21: Didn't really listen to anything--just religious music
Age 22-now: I'm really not into the heavier stuff anymore (though I did retain some music from my teens) and try to buy music now as opposed to downloading. Here's what I like currently: Metallica, Muse, Good Charlotte, Coldplay, The Postal Service, Foo Fighters, Rise Against, U2, and a mix of just about every other genre (classical, celtic, punk, latin, pop, alternative, etc.)

I got a lot of this from an old journal--It's fun to look back! Here and there I see my obsession with werewolves mentioned; I guess I found Goldenwolf's art a lot sooner than I thought!

Everyone seems to be saying Metal or rock. (Ok Punk has a little vote but I can see the logic behind that!)

I am suppriesd that rock is beating metal. This isnt your choise this is a 15 year old werewolf! I think metal or failing that Hardcore Punk. I might be bias though as my music taste is in a nutshell; Bathory, Enslaved, Destroyer 666, Darkthrone with a little Graveland on the side. As far as I'm aware there is no better music!

Imeem is your friend! :D
This Morn' Omina

I agree about the whole tribal music aspect, but I think werewolves would prefer. . . Well, "tribal-techno" as opposed to "techno-tribal."

My first recommendation would have been the Afro Celt Sound System (which, coincidentally, is one of my favorite music groups overall):
Click me.

At the very least, a werewolf might like that kind of music because, since they'll feel at odds with society at large, they might in turn appreciate things which society at large does not appreciate. Like World music, for example.

Tribal werewolves would make their own music, and would not have a need for music from the outside. :P
