Are the some werewolves really that bad?

I mean of course some werewolves are know for horridly bad design, FX and other things you could throw a ducky at. They are often cliche with them howling at the moon time after time and usually they can be slain with a healthy amount of silver. To be fair enough, werewolves have many forms and as such, do these types of werewolves have a place? Will there be any time that they will become null? To be fair the Twilight type vampires have a similer problem where they done badly and many people hate the sparkles. It makes people howl in pain. So, in the name of ducky can old werewolves have place just like old vampires?
