Wolf-themed animated movie announced

Post by Berserker »

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/boondoc ... s/1719352/

"Anthony Bell ("The Boondocks") and Ben Gluck ("Brother Bear 2") will direct from a script by Chris Denk, which is based on an original story by Steve Moore. "Alpha and Omega" follows two bickering wolves -- one a disciplined, Alpha-bred wolf (Panettiere) and the other a fun-loving, comical Omega wolf (Long) -- who are captured and taken thousands of miles from their home. Determined to rejoin their pack, the two mismatched wolves begin a dangerous trek across unfamiliar terrain, battling the odds, the elements, the bears and one another -- and finding love along the way."

Sweet 8)
Hope it wont be just another comedy. Just about all computer-animated films are very comedy oriented :P I'd like to see more modern animations to have some dramaish elements in it, like The Lion King, Beuty and the Beast, ect. Heres hoping for the best :D

Those are at least moderately known actors...this could actually make it through production. 8)

Sounds interesting but 2010 is still a long way from now.
The wolf is neither man's competitor nor his enemy.
He is a fellow creature with whom the earth must be shared...
If the wolf is to survive, the wolf haters must be outnumbered.
They must be outshouted, out financed, and out voted.
Their narrow and biased attitude must be outweighed by an attitude based on an understanding of natural processes.

Yeah, I kinda' feel the same way. The Boondocks animated series was dull compared to the strip, Brother Bear 2 was even more corny-bad than the original, and the plot outline of "tough loner meets friendly screwup" has been done to death over the decades.

And the sad part is that, even knowing all that, I'm probably still going to watch it. :P That's why movies like that get made; because they can still at least turn a profit on all the people that are suckers for anything canine.

All the people who are suckers for anything canine?

That would be what...the 2,000 people on this board? *giggle* I'm telling you, outside this fandom no one gives a crap about wolves in media.

Oh no, they're out there. They're not all furries or werewolf fans, but there are enough people that just like wolves, canines, or just animals in general to make even a royal festering turd of a movie turn a profit at the box office.

If you don't believe me, watch the numbers on opening day for Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Nobody but a dog lover could possibly see anything good in that movie. :P

I saw the traile for beverly hills Chihuahua before narnia. At the end someone screamed out "RENTAL!!!

No..I suppose this WOLF MOVIE could be good. I'm just skeptical ( again, this coming from someone who likes wolves and WROTE werewolf movie and is currently writing its sequel ) My first job in hollywierd was working on a very similar film which was canceled after 2 years and 50 million bucks worth of development. Probably just as well. it was a musical..and if singing chihuahuas make you cringe, this would have been worse.

All the billion "Air Bud" and "snow dogs at various points of comedy and adventure" movies that Disney puts out indicate to me that somewhere, a silent bastion of canine lovers lurks in hiding. I bet Beverly Hills Chihuahua will have 2-3 sequels too. :( Mega failure.

*cringes* I'd almost tuned that out of my mind forever. . . But yes, that's a much better example of the piss poor dog movie phenomenon. They made four sequels and four spin-offs! Think about that: There were more more Air Bud movies than Star Wars movies! :P

And Matt. . . Honestly, if this is what they consider big screen worthy, I can't imagine what could be so horrendous that even Disney would yell "Stop the madness!" midway through production. Are you sure the problem wasn't instead that there wasn't a large enough target audience? You know, like a werewolf movie?

So basically, the alpha is a stuck-up bourgeois, and the omega is a hippie?

Mind you, this particular vehicle has been done to death; but it still sells tickets.

The Alpha wolf and the Omega wolf...comic and foil, changing places as the script demands.

The "finding love along the way" is (I hope)either with a couple of other wolves, or maybe one of the title pair is male and one is female...
'cause otherwise it's not gonna get a "G" rating.

Although that would be funny as he--!

OK, I'll just ask straight out: What would have been singing in your first project that was unfortunately(?) canned?

And like RedEye said, it's the odd couple (or as Pixar calls it, the buddy film), arguably the most overused vehicle in the entire industry. I'm sure that, like most films, it will "have its moments," but since I don't see any evidence of any creativity just yet, I'm not getting my hopes up that this will be anything more than something I'll either rent or buy cheap out of the bargain bin.

Great, I think this "Wolf Themed" animated film will have campy comedy crude jokes and cliche.'

I will bet that the wolves will look downright silly and cartoony, if the designers don't take wolves seriously, but portray them as wacky wolves that don't howl at all.
