easy solution

Got a video camera? Set it outside, start recording, then go back inside.

Let us know if you captured some footage.

no I don't think so. this thing was way to big. it's three times the size of the gray wolf. I think it might be a governmental experiment. at least that's my guss. and not just that. there have been odd sounds out in the desert across the street from my back yard. it first sounds like a hyena and slowly turns into a howl. and it sounds like there are about 15 or more. And I have allso found dead animals. cats and dogs. riped to shreds.

i dont know my friend saw a coyote the size of a saint benard by our nature reserve

but your thing is to big and we live in southern oklahoma close to the mountains.

You should video tape it then it would be easyer to find out what it is :)

I do hope you can catch some video of it. It sounds very interesting. I'd like to see what you're talking about.

I'm glad to hear you're not jumping to conclusions and insisting that it is a werewolf. While that would be a very cool find, I think other explanations are far more likely. Whatever it is, it does sound unique. Hopefully if the video camera doesn't catch some footage of it, it might at least discourage it from hanging around your house.

At that size, I wonder if it could be an escaped black bear that's somehow managing to survive out there.

The howling you described sounds very much like coyotes, but I imagine living where you live, you would know that sound by heart, so I'll take your word that it is different than normal coyote howling.

I don't know, please keep us updated. :)

I'm on the edge of the New Mexico wilderness, and I have heard this creature.

It's a coyote. They sound exactly like how you described. As far as looks, they can get suprisingly big if well fed. The more commonly seen coyotes are skinny due to their starved diets. They normally only find a meal a couple of times a week where I live, so they look scrawny. The well fed variety can get as big as a wolf, or bigger depending on the variety of coyote.

It also seems like the dark is playing tricks on your eyes. It makes you see the animal differently due to a low lighting situation. Shadows can distort shapes a lot. If it is a coyote, there's no reason to fear it. They are afraid of people, and will run away when you get close. They only hunt defenseless animals like cows, rabbits, chickens... and household pets.

Yeah, and they will only take a young calf. No coyote in its right mind would attack a grown cow.
I agree with Kaebora- if it is a coyote(pretty likely), then the only reason to worry is if it is rabid (it probably isn't).

Yah. I hope that's all it is, It's face looked deformed, and I have seen a lot of Coyotes out in the desert, it didn't look like any coyote I've ever seen.

What does the deformation look like? Short muzzle and round ears, it's probably a bear. Short muzzle and pointed ears, it's a cat. Long muzzle, big ears and cutoffs, it's Fig.
Really, long distance identification needs more data than "It looks deformed". How does it look deformed, compared to what?
Oh...and STAY OUT OF YOUR BACK YARD AT NIGHT!

Edit: Y'know, deformed, short ears and long snout, gray: it might be a Javalina, a wild pig. Or, worse, much worse; a Feral pig. They are mucho dangerous!

Wild pig, quite big I would say, maybe what he is describing

Also he never said anything about it being dark

Well I mean it kinda looked like a wolf or coyote but a deformed one at that. it was dark out but I had a high powered flash light, it had big slanted eyes dark gray fur, big but thin and short ears, a long and thick snowt and it had long fangs hanging out the sides. it was verry tall, I'd say 3 to 3 and a half feet. it had long legs and verry big paws. and thank god I haven't seen it for a wile. a lot of weirdness hapens here, but what disdurbs me is it's never reported on the news, or papers.

Hmm I would seriously suggest contacting Linda Godfrey about this http://www.cnb-scene.com/ and see what she thinks. I've already mentioned this particular thread to her and sent her a link to check it out, but I don't know for sure if she has followed through with that, but it might help if you contacted her and asked what she thought about it. She is currently the leading expert in strange canidae, although I was just wondering. Have you seen it on two legs?

No, I've never seen it walk on to legs, but the way thay were lined up it looked like it posibly could. and that's not all of the crazyness, have you ever heard of Green and Blue Meteors? for the past 2 moths thay have been every were! and my mom reported it to the local news And I'm shour other people have seen them to, but the news isn't saying anything, or the local papers. I think it's being coverd up. I'v got a good friend who has been helping me out with this stuff.
