Is Pack Chat dead?

Post by FoxKnight »

If anyone else has noticed, the Pack forum has been a bit more active since the summer while #pack on IRC has pretty much flatlined for September

I want to believe that it's just one of those times of the year when it's slow, but I haven't seen but two others there all month. I don't remember it ever being that slow. Earlier this year, I could find someone on nearly any time of day. Now, I'm averaging about twice a week. Has everyone just forgotten the Pack Chat or have I just been seriously unlucky in my timing all month?

(This is not about #paradice, which I can only assume is still doing well, nor #golf, which I've only found cloakable in since a month before Baphnedia shut down Paradice.net)

Funny that, a couple of hours after you leave, Howlitzer shows up :P .

Yes, the IRC is rather dead. It would however be nice to have a specified IRC meeting date/time, to get everyone on at once, and get it alive again. Either a single day, or a predictable schedule would help bring it back to life; although, we may need some purpose or incentive for people to join in, which I can't think of.

What if we had a kind of event calendar or something? It appears there is enough activity for a schedule to be successful

There's always the full moon as an event to bring everyone together. Or maybe we could be ironic and chat on new moon nights?

(new moon nights would be better prowling nights for werewolves anyway.)

Well, I tried, but there's not much to work with here, this is not the community I'm used to, there's nobody here to fill the gaps I leave in handling disputes like this. I work best as a registered user giving backup to designated moderators, that's what I do best, and am best left to pick battles for myself, rather than being given a role to carry out.

It's why I'm regretting stepping in here, I think ego might have got the better of me, the job is only half done. While I was focusing on SheWolf-94, I took my eye off Sevena, who is now on hiatus apparently, perhaps SheWolf is still dishing out the punishment in PM or something, I don't know, and in an act which has me scratching my head, Sevena deleted a bunch of quite valuable posts in one of my art threads, over a misunderstanding as direct result of this. Perhaps Lovec was right, I should have let it alone to resolve itself, as it eventually would have.

I may have shut people up, but things are obviously still bubbling away underneath, hardly the hallmark of a good moderator or the result I'd hoped for.

Actually, I meant it in regards to being there to intervene when topics get heated unlike most of the moderators on this forum besides occasionally AB and Takyoji, but it was my mistake to not clarify.

At least you had good intentions, Meeper.

I believe we should meet on a weekend, and try to incorporate a time for everyone in different time zones to make it... i think it'd be rather.. interesting, to have some of the pack in one area at once. hwlwnk

Yeah, but that's kind of the point of my response there, to you I'm lamenting the failures of leveling the situation, to me it's further tempering the situation by bringing those things to light after the fact, it displays self moderation, not simply moderation of others, which is important for others to learn to moderate themselves as I have learned to.

The whole movie is dead as far as I'm concerned.

Why? It's actually being made, as opposed to every other year until now.

Yeah, for those still around I think a monthly event would be a nice idea. It might also help draw more people in if we seem more active through it? :howl: :oo

(Also, I am totally staying out of the issues people are experiencing. However, I'll just say this: I wish people could get along. We don't have many members here, so, I'd really hope we'd keep the few active ones we do have. :c )

If the pack chat was on life support, then I think it's safe to say it's currently flatlined and in dire need of defibrillation!

Well, looks like it's broke again. Either that or they changed the address. Any word on what's going on?

The domain you are presumably connecting by (irc.paradice.net) has expired and probably won't be renewed.

You can use irc.thepack.network, which shall always point to the correct server.

Hmm, irc.thepack.network times out for me. Gawd I hate irc sometimes, there's so many ways it can fail  . Thanks anyway.

In the meantime, you can just directly connect to the current IP address, 66.228.42.59

Apparently the DNS isn't up-to-date, and I'll pester someone to get that resolved.
