Yes they could have locked everything down. but it would have been impractical and unnessisary for a murder investigation. The size of the campus would make it difficult to effectively lockdown anyway. Think about the amount of police it would take to effectivly lock down a small town. To put a cops at every entrance in every building. you'd have to pull people off patrols, etc. Then when more immediate emergancies happen, response time becomes slower...

VT is full of adults, not children. stop thinking of it like its some kind of public high school

Seriously, though. When someone gets murdered, the authorities dont lockdown so much as the neighborhood where the shooting took place. At least, now where i live.

Sure, the shool coulda texted, e-mailed, phoned everyone. "so-n-so got murdered, unknown suspect still on the loose." But Ya know what the students and staff woulda done? went to friggin class.

and even if they did lock the place down, they didn't have a clue who they were looking for. and its not like everyone gets shut up in thier own little closets. the kid woulda been near people, and if a lockdown went into effect, he prob woulda just shot up whatever building he was in anyway.

oh. And murders ARE an everyday occurance. And Santa Clause doesnt exist. And a stork didn't drop you down a chimney.

welcome to the REAL WORLD
enjoy your stay

**** saying "oh well" may do no more to help the situation than idealist whinnig, but wastes alot less time and people could go on prenting the world is perfect.

The mere presence of police, security etc. is more often than not enough to discourage law-breaking.

I mean, you don't exactly feel inspired to start speeding when you see a cop behind you, do you? Don't most people start going alot slower than before, even if they weren't speeding at all? Of course. 'Tis a cop.

Residential Neighborhoods and campuses are different things entirely. Landowners aren't responsible for the safety of their renters, aside from making sure the building's up to standards. Colleges however, are.

Not everyone.

He'd have less access however. Thus it'd reduce the amount he could kill. It may not save all lives, but it'd save more.

I was speaking locally. Murders aren't an everyday occurance in small towns.

I can only think of one murder in a couple years around where I live.

I'm not pretending the world is perfect. I'm not however, saying it sucks, either.

Extremes are bad. Moderation is good. Ignoring it is just as bad as "whining" because just going on with our lives and not trying to prevent this stuff from happening again will just lead to history repeating itself.

Terrible things are happening. What does the guy who takes the gun and goes to shoot his classmates thinks? Nobody will know about it. The world is rolling into the abyss and we are with it. Maybe his day was just awful and he decided to avenge it? But this is a terrible method. I heard that one guy could not write the test and decided to beat the teacher to vent his anger. Damn, if you don't have enough brains to write it yourself, order cheap essays on FastEssay.net and that's it. Why resort to such measures as murder and shooting? This is not clear to me.
