I know it's not a convention per se, but it is a "make your own reality" gathering. I've seen lots of Furries there and of course, the nightly citywide howl at moonrise.

Anyone making plans to go? Theme camps? Costumes? Art? Performances? Wolf-bound, I know you're going...

One of these years... Too much going on right now. I know, an excuse, but I don't just mean too much of the usual. I've really got stuff going on.

Yeah, I don't blame you. Burning Man isn't something you go to on a lark.

How apropo...

There'll be a full moon on the Playa in '07 and I'm planning to make a winged werewolf body puppet/costume for my project that year.

Too late for this year, already started work on my Smoke-in-the-Box. One year, one project, do it well.

Well, we're starting to ramp up to Burning Man '07, THE GREEN MAN. Not only will there be a full moon while we're out there, there'll be a lunar eclipse and in observance of that, I'll be leading a howling workshop and initiating an eclipse party at the Man. There's already some excitement about that; I'm a little nervous because one guy on that board is stalking me and I'm afraid he'll come and disrupt the event. I'm working at building up excitement and interest so when we get on-Playa there'll be a lot of people having my back. Bullies work in isolation.

The Man's Circle is gonna be real cool this year. He'll be standing on top of a green mountain surrounded by faux trees made by artists. We'll range about through the forest and howl, tell stories and dance.

Smoke-in-the-Box? It didn't happen. I couldn't figure out how to make the mechanism work :(

Fenrir, if you want to go, start planning. You're 17 now, right? Plan for the year you turn 18.

X, you don't have to be rich to go. I'm slightly below the poverty line. You don't have to come up with grandiose full-scale art installations to participate, you can do almost anything. My camp director Robert's contribution is to host the paint-up for Critical Tits and he distributes condoms and dental dams. Lots of people see art installations like Flock, Euchronia, Draka the Dragon Train, Contessa the Ghost Ship, Steam Victorian and Xara, and think they have to have budgets that rival independent films. My budget last year was $600 including gas for a 900-mile round trip

We veterans like to say, if you really want to be there...you'll make it happen. Tap into your inner lateral thinker.
