Versa-Sylvie-Ressi RP!?

Post by lycanthropeful »

Yeah, yeah, excuse me guys while I:
1. Fail to come up with a better title for this RP
2. Recycle (i.e "copypaste!") the opening scenes of the RP Jingles and I have started on because I'm unsure of how to approach this informal RP. (Don't worry, Jingles, I took out your parts since that would be plagiarism.) Sorry, I'm changing some bits, but most of this will start off general so that we can add more original words and actions later. I wasn't given much instruction, but I offered to start up the thread.

This thread is intended for only myself, Malignant-Librarian, and outwarddoodles. :) Everything below is roleplay. Let the games begin! No plot in sight, I could even care less if we just waltz around taking like our characters in this thread.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a chilly December evening, the air was stinging cold against Versa Novak's cheeks. Tree branches whistled a solemn song as gusts, blowing in off the Pacific Ocean, ripped through the forests. Corvallis, Oregon, the girl's hometown, was as fine a setting as ever for a winter evening stroll. She was bundled in a winter jacket that hugged her slender frame, with a green scarf wound loosely around her neck and broad shoulders. It seemed that on nights like these Versa could hear nature calling her, rapping at the windowpanes, beckoning her to leave her earthly worries like homework behind, if even for a moment, to come join its forces, frolicking in a savage unison of nature and beast.

Sometimes the urge was so strong that she felt physically in pain if she didn't go outside. Versa couldn't stand tight spaces - her tiny bedroom in the Novaks' stylish brick home was such a constriction. Its confinement was long gone from her mind as she continued her stroll, winding through the columns of evergreens an acre or so behind her backyard.

Sitting like a small plush doll on the tree branch directly above her, a squirrel looked down at Versa. She smiled at the little rodent, revealing two canine teeth much longer than an average human's. Quickly the smile faded. A grim realization overtook Versa, knowing that in just a few minutes, she'd be feasting on the squirrel, and perhaps others.

A light sea of moonlight worked its way in between every slight gap in the forest. Filters of moonlight extended like fingers through the pine needles, appearing on the frozen ground in tiny bluish-white pinpricks. The moon was humongous, much more impressive than the dismal, cloud-covered sun Versa had seen through classroom windows while at school earlier in the day.

Her surroundings put her at ease - she almost hated to disturb the peaceful atmosphere. But, the 17-year old had had another rough day at school. On days like this, Versa couldn't wait to get home and unwind... She easily could have fallen into the traps of sin, choosing to do drugs, have gratuitous sex, or numerous other bad habits. But Versa's, well, vice, was much simpler, and entirely unique.

Not drugs, not sex, but lycanthropy.

Quietly, Versa growled, seeing the bluish vapor release from her lips. It was freezing cold outside - even the animals were in their homes, safe and warm - but she took off the jacket nonetheless, setting it on a nearby log. The scarf unraveled as well, and the girl tossed her head back to face the moon. Her body was alive and pulsing, as if she and the moon were two pendulums swinging at the same natural frequency. She radiated with an energy that could almost be felt. As Versa looked up at the moon, she could feel all the collective feelings from the day start to come back... Anger. Disgust. Rage.

A howl ripped from her throat. The change was about to begin.

Post by Malignant-Librarian »

"Oh my god, Jim. Jim, wake up and look at this..!"

Sandra Jerro reached over and slapped her snoozing husband in the passenger seat of the car. They had been driving on the eerily empty highway for hours now, on their way back to her suburban home in Corvallis. They planned to drive all through the night, taking turns driving while the other slept in the passenger's seat. The baby slept in the back seat of the car. It would take a thunderstorm of epic proportions to wake him. Sandra's turn to drive had come just twenty minutes before. Slap! Jim grunted and blinked awake blearily. The car had cruised to a stop, the engine still humming noisily.

"Uh, what is it? I just got to sleep..." he groaned, voice groggy with sleep.

"JIM, LOOK AT THAT!" as his wife's voice rose steadily in pitch to an almost-shriek, Jim Jerro sat up and stared out the foggy glass of the windshield. What he saw blew his mind.

Crossing the road in front of them was the largest dog he'd ever seen in his life. It was a hulking beast of a dog -- no, a wolf. It was light gray and thickly-furred, with hunks of its fuzzy undercoat peeking out from under the stiff guard hairs that made it look like a bristly porcupine. Its head was huge and heavy, tiny eyes flashing their tapetum lucidium in the headlights of the car. The animal must have been five feet at the shoulder, easily the size of a pony. It didn't seem at all perturbed by the bright headlights casting silvery shadows on its fur.

"J-Jesus christ," Jim said, trying to erase the trembling from his voice. "Honey, whatever you do, don't mo-"

At that moment in time, several things happened. The huge wolf stopped and whipped its enormous head around to stare behind itself into the forest, one large paw lifted ponderously mid-step. The speed at which its head had snapped around was unnerving. What happened next would change Jim and Sandra Jerro's life forever. Out of the forest, leaves flying and pine needles scattering, tore a huge golden-brown mass of fur. It shot across the road in a blink and slammed into the wolf with a force so intense that the car actually shook, the windows rattling.

BAAAAAAM! Sandra screamed, but it was overwhelmed by her husband's own shriek of terror.

The noise of two titanic bodies meeting each other sounded like a very large person being slapped with a very large steak. Jim's eyes refused to blink, his arm tightened in a white-knuckled grip on his wife's wrist. He could feel her pulse, hard and fast as a bird's. The two sat frozen in the car, fight, flight, or freeze instinct activated on the latter. The creature that had come out of the forest looked, for lack of a better descriptor, like a lion. It was easily twice the size of the already enormous wolf that had been casually trotting across the empty highway just moments before.

The full moon illuminated the area with a faint silvery sheen.

The lion, though, had run to its target, the wolf, on its hind legs. Indeed, in the split second Jim had gotten an eyeful of the monster, he had noticed that it was bipedal. An enormous man-lion, complete with a long ropy tail thrashing around behind it, tassel waving in the breeze of its own creation. It had tackled the wolf, who hadn't had time to react, and the two were now a roiling mess of silver and gold on the cracked asphalt of the road in front of the family's unassuming sedan. The lion-man wrestled the huge wolf to the ground and reared back a fist easily many times the size and weight of a honey-baked ham, and viciously pummeled the wolf. The meaty 'thwacks!' as fist met ribs sounded like battle drums in the otherwise silent night.

Jim felt something warm trickle down his inner thigh; he ignored it and stared, transfixed, at the beasts just feet away from his car.

Strangely, the wolf made no sound as it was beat upon; it writhed and tried to get away. It almost slipped free, but the lion-man's clawed hand shot out and sunk its huge white claws into the wolf's shanks, spurts of blood that looked black in the colorless night shooting into the air. The wolf finally made a noise of pain; a fast yelping whine. And then the wolf began to change. Crackling noises and shifting pops permeated the air even as the lion-man whaled on the wolf with an increased speed and desperation. The wolf began to grow -- so rapidly that Sandra gasped. Its arms and legs lengthened, and its torso stretched and grew. Mere moments later, the wolf was equal in size to the lion-man, and also bipedal. The muscles in its thighs bunched and stretched and it abruptly shoved the lion -- the werelion -- off of itself with its heavy feet.

The werelion went flying -- back into the car. Sandra opened her mouth to scream, but the air was knocked out of her lungs on impact. The noise of metal being crushed by a huge body filled the air. The airbags deployed. The jarring impact of the giant beast-man pushed the sedan back on the highway several hundred yards, the engine sputtering in surprised protest. The baby shifted in his carseat in the back of the car. As soon as she could breathe, Sandra ignored the spiking pain in her chest and ripped her seatbelt off to check on the baby. Little Ronnie was fine, but his eyes were open and wide. His lower lip was trembling nervously, but he didn't cry.

"T-Thank god..." Sandra managed to wheeze, the airbag preventing her from settling back into her original position. "Jim, we've got to get out of -- Jim?!"

Sandra stared in horror at her husband; who was crying. His eyes were huge and wide, giant tears filling them and spilling over down his shocked cheeks. The airbag, like a used condom, rested in a wilted heap in his lap. The werelion tore free from the crumpled hood of the sedan. It bristled, the powerful muscles of its back rippling. The lion-man reared back and let out a blood-curdling roar that shook the very foundations of the car. From where he was sitting, Jim Jerro could see it all. A werewolf -- and honest-to-god werewolf, like in the movies but bigger -- was staring down the were... lion, apparently unimpressed by the battle roar.

Then the unthinkable happened.

The werelion turned around and picked up the sedan. It sunk its huge hands into the sides of the car, and, muscles flexing easily, hauled the sedan over its head. Sandra instantly regretted removing her seatbelt, as she was thrown bodily into the crammed space against the windshield and behind the wheel. Her forehead struck glass and she blacked out. Jim couldn't even scream; didn't think to check on his child behind him. There was no time! The sedan was being held over the werelion's head like a toy car.

Ronnie began to cry -- and, unknown to Jim and Sandra Jerro, that noise saved their life that night.

The werewolf's head tilted suddenly, ears pricked at the wail of a baby. Its tiny, mismatched eyes widened for a split-second, and it let out a harsh bark that sounded almost like, "NO!" It was too late, though. The werelion reared back, mane shimmering honey-colored in the moonlight, and threw the car. The force of the throw was astounding, and by all rights would have killed the family in the car. The car missed the werewolf and went sailing over its head in a spiral of ocean blue. The werewolf whipped around, every muscle in its body singing with exertion, and tore after the rapidly flying car with such breakneck speed that the asphalt beneath its feet literally steamed. It caught up to the flying car and, with a desperate leap, caught the vehicle before it hit the ground, a baseball player catching the ball, and skidded hundreds of feet before coming to a shaky halt.

There was a pregnant silence. The werewolf's ears were pricked upward, eyes dilated into tiny sparkles of blue and brown in its face. Then, the upset wail of a child filled the air.

The werewolf relaxed, setting the battered car down. It stood up slowly and turned around to face its opponent. Rolling its head slowly back and forth to crack the bones in its neck, it rolled its shoulders. It charged, the thundering noises of its pawsteps echoing in Jim jerro's ears. His wife had regained consciousness and instinctively scrabbled into the front seat, sweating bullets.

" jim .... Jim.... JIM!" shrieked Sandra. Her husband snapped back into reality, and the wash of cold fear that ran through him head through toe when the adrenaline left was the worst feeling he'd ever had. "The baby's okay, by some miracle of God," his wife said, trying fruitlessly to turn the car on. The sounds of the titans battling in the background was terrifying. On the sixth try, the car started, and Sandra Jerro booked it out onto the highway again, ignoring the '60 MPH Speed Limit' sign and taking the car to a shuddering 120MPH. She was going to get her family out of that situation if it cost her own life to do so. Blood trickled down the size of her face. Never had she been more relieved to hear Ronnie wailing than she was that night.

She didn't look back.

And that was what had deterred Sylvie on her way to visit her friend, Versa Novak, in the land of Corvallis. The huge werewolf was currently in her full-wolf form, walking slowly and stiffly down the side of the suburban road. She was taking the back streets to Versa's territory, and would be there soon. Blood matted her fur and made her look even more disreputable than usual. She heard Versa's transformation howl and her ears perked; she broke into a trot and padded through the forest towards Versa's back yard.

[OOC: Oh Outieeeeee, we're waiting for youuuuuuu!

And what the heck, Jingles, this is like a circus in the middle of Highway 99. Hilarious, and I don't know how you come up with this stuff!]

Kneeling on one leg, Versa hunched over and concentrating on transferring the tension in her muscles into the energy necessary to start the shift. A moment passed, and she lowered her head, snarling, feeling like her body was in a state of limbo between human and animal already. The small details emerged first: claws burst from the tips of her existing nails, teeth pulled forward in her jaw and sharpened to a wicked point, green eyes turned a murky yellow, and her pointed ears grew more so, sliding their way along the sides of her head.

Versa had done this seemingly a million times before; tonight's metamorphosis was a welcome release from the stress of her day, and she savored each push and pull of the changing organs and muscles contained in and on her body. Her already toned arms and legs began to bulge outward still as the muzzle extending forward from the front of her face developed into the furred maw characteristic of her werewolf form.

Paired with more growls, muscles and fur took turns growing and stretching into place, layering into their positions which filled out Versa's no-longer human body. Soon she had taken on a bulkier form, rising up from the ground on massive leathery paws. She balanced her nearly 500-pound weight temperately with the pendulum sway of a green-tipped tail.

The cute little squirrel that had been peeking at Versa from its treetop perch was now in between the girl's jaws. Her bristled gray muzzle was clamped down over the hapless creature - with a grisly "SCRUNCH" noise, the squirrel's entire skeleton crunched under the pointed teeth, the top and lower jaw holding it in place like a vise.

Blood stained the perimeter of her mouth. Versa held her head back and released another howl toward the black sky above Corvallis before embarking farther into the forest.

[OOC: My cat has been VERY sick lately, and it's utterly killing me. So my apologies if my post appears less than eloquent; I'm a little sleep deprived right now. Now, without further ado...]

Resiarch Ulfhednar trotted briskly through the silvery forest. As he swung his head to-and-fro in an attempt to locate his current position, visible puffs of air emanated from his gaped maw; evidence both of Ressi's psychical exertion and of the December night's chill.

Ressi was constantly aware of the expansive full moon commanding the night sky above him; columns of moonlight illuminating every facet of the forest with a clear, silvery, and startling clarity. In his current form, Ressi's particular eyesight was both highly adapted for nocturnal forays such as this and was also keenly attuned to action and movement. As a result, he witnessed every sway, shifting, and stirring of the otherwise preternaturally still forest.

But then again, Ressi wasn't entirely focused on his sight right now. His eyes told him that he had been passing through an unchanging forest for quite some time. But his nose....he smelt something. Something different. And he had been following this unique scent trail for quite some time.

Despite his size, Ressi was both unusually silent and still. Perhaps only another creature with senses as sharp as his own would be able to discern his form from the dense shadows. The inordinately large, reddish wolf paced with a sense of purpose. He was the size of a very large dog, albeit taller and slender, proportionately, than an average wolf. Long, pointed webbed ears reacted to every minute stimulation, and a brushy tail was held proudly in the air with anticipated discovery.

Alas, the size discrepancy was not this wolf's only unusual quality. Dark, long hair positioned on top of his head resembled a bizarre likeness to human hair; a leather satchel of sorts was wrapped tightly about his canine waist, with a long, narrow container of sorts was attached similarly. And of the most distinctive of these features, were the piercing purple eyes. Like glowing amethyst, these eyes were unmistakably intelligent, and studied the forest landscape with with an extreme intensity.

Just as the strange odor was becoming so thick it stung his nostrils, Ressi suddenly heard an unexpected howl pierce the icy air.

Ressi slid to a halt, staggered, and tried desperately to locate the direction of the wolven report. His intuition told him that the origin of the sound and smell were one and the same, but Ressi's logic informed him that the smell was definitely NOT wolven -- or at least, not wholly so. But then again, the tenor the howl wasn't really usual either...

Tip toeing in the direction of the noise, Ressi noticed that the distinctive trail was approaching a newer scent; this scent vague yet omnipresent -- likely the scent of a 'owner' of the 'territory.' Ressi stood at the edge of this new scent, wary of it's owner. Should he explore? Is it really worth the effort? Were these scents related, and were their creators merciful?

Ressi stood at this threshold for quite some time, ruminating over his every option and motivation. Surely a supernatural being like Ressi had little to fear from anything natural, and his incredible regeneration guarded him from any imminent danger. But were these smells natural? Ressi's been alive just long enough to know that not even a werewolf had room to be complacent.

But then again, Ressi's been alive long enough to be a little bored. The poor vagrant didn't even have the faintest ideas of where he was going; merely that he's been surviving off what little sustenance he procured from the wild, and occasionally supplies he unobtrusively 'borrowed' from households he's visited along the way. A strong desire to move predicated his nomadic lifestyle; a lack of direction kept him moving until he found whatever he was looking for - and he sure hadn't found that yet.

A second howl interrupted his reverie; as forceful and feral as the last. Suddenly, Ressi's body quivered with fear and adrenaline; his abrupt excitement caused Ressi to make a decision he wouldn't have otherwise made; he burst through the imaginary threshold and raced towards the howl, his own silent howl choked back in his throat. Perhaps his action was thoughtless, but Ressi could only think now about the mystery he hoped to unravel...

A large, hulking, gray-furred figure in the distance revealed to Ressi who the originator of this mystery just might be.

[OOC: Although Ressi his 'officially' mute, this is mostly only for my hardly-written story line and I often revoke this hindrance in lieu of easing up the whole RPing process. In this case, I usually grant him a throaty, raspy whisper of a voice. Do you guys prefer that? Because I'm leaning in that direction right now.)

[Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain that Ressi is where Versa is. XD This is the part that I always screw up in RP: FIGURING THINGS OUT WITHOUT PEOPLE TELLING ME THEM. If not, then this post can be deleted and I'll wait my turn.

Oh, and I think giving Ressi a voice would certainly be helpful, as long as you don't mind compromising the character, Outie.]

It was not a wintry gale that caused the shorter, dark green hackles on the back of Versa's neck to stand on end, but rather the presence of an intruder to her territory. Raccoons, deer, young coyotes, and even some bears were no match for her in both size and skill; Versa was the queen of this forest when she needed to be.

Yet now, through lucid, pupil-less eyes, she was observing that there was someone or something whose silhouette the moon was illuminating, standing in a clearing in the forest. From a distance, she could discern that the body was smaller than her own both in build and height, and that it was perched on two legs. The smell was not unusual; amidst the other aromas within the forest, like evergreen and musk, she determined it was something of canine nature. The sylvan surroundings, ones Versa considered 'home,' had never welcomed such company before.

Surprisingly, Versa did not charge the intruder. In lupine form, almost always, instinct reigned supreme over her human logic. She wasn't fearful so much as curious. But, before she had a chance to do little more than release a warning snarl, the figure took off like a rocket. It bounded toward Versa.

Quadripedal running was not her favorite - by remaining on two legs, she would not be left vulnerable at a height closer to he ground. The gray she-wolf perceived the figure's fortuitous action as a threat, and thusly snarled, massive paws slamming against the dirt in a full run toward the forest's clearing.

[Ressi is meeting you, because he's following your howl. But he found Versa's territory through one of Sylvie's trails. : ) ]

As Ressi entered a large clearing, he noticed the gray-furred figure responding accordingly -- and approaching him at an alarming speed. A twinge of regret flashed through Ressi's mind before he impassively observed that whatever trouble he'd started, he'd have to end; and there was no time for regret.

The beast let out a challenging snarl, and Ressi percieved a fight as eminent. As he ran, particular sections of his body began to stretch and contort, adopting an entirely new design: His front toes lengthened until they resembled thick, robust fingers, hand-like but still entirely admissible for quadrupedal running; his biceps likewise extended from his chest, resembling arms and shoulders that now converged at a human like torso; his thighs and calves thickened and prepared to take on the whole of Ressi's weight in a bipedal stance; lastly, Ressi swiftly circled closer to the mystery, his swift sprinting completely uninterrupted by his subtle swift from full wolf to gestalt forms.

But when the figure before him was finally revealed, he skidded to a halt, forepaws uplifting grass and dirt before him.

What was he thinking about earlier, about werewolves having no room to be complacent?

Ressi gasped at the sight of the she-wolf with unmistakably green, glowing eyes, and stood up on his hind-legs to obtain a better look. Ressi couldn't discern if he was frightened or intrigued. Perhaps it was an intense mixture of both. He spread both of his fore-paws out in an expression of surrender and benevolence, but issued an aggressive growl nevertheless -- I don't want to start a fight, but I still mean business, was his message.

[Oops, I'm sorry, I jumped the gun there and must've overlooked the part about "tall as a large dog' - sorry if I just made Ressi go on two legs for my mistake!

Ah, okay, I thought the howls were in accordance with mine. Just wanted to check. : ) And oh, nuts, I wonder if I should stretch the limits here and allow Versa to speak in were-form. Hmmm. We'll see what happens.]

As Versa watched the reddish wolf shift right before her very eyes, it brought not quite a wave of relief, but certainly a change in attitude, washing over her. Any stranger in her territory she considered a danger, even other werewolves, but knowing that clearly the newcomer was a lycanthrope like her allowed her to make a judgment beyond merely deciphering his appearance as "prey."

Upon her two paws she rose, looming over him like a monolith. Standing around seven and a half feet, Versa's ears just barely grazed the tinier trees in the clearing both creatures were now lurking within, looking at each other face to face. A behemoth, 500 pounds or more of muscle and rage, Versa snorted, almost offended, as she watched the smaller creature's strangely human gestures of pacifism. Her almost perfectly human forepaws closed and opened as she wondered how to treat the stranger below her. Moonlight glinted from the black claws, and she quietly grunted, not so much an aggressive snarl, backing up on her hind legs.

Instead of ripping him to shreds, Versa opted to let the intruder notify what he was doing here. Perhaps he was a sentry of Sylvie's, the only other werewolf she knew who had visited Corvallis.

Re: Versa-Sylvie-Ressi RP!?

Despite his calm visage, Ressi was utterly torn between his overwhelming fear and intense curiosity.

If only I were wearing pants right now, they'd be drenched in urine, Ressi thought to himself. The otherwise methodical and cautious werewolf was berating his brash, reckless behavior just moments before as the powerful lupine stranger rose to her full size and eyed him -- with her eerie, luminous green eyes -- warily.

A werewolf. Another werewolf . . . but Ressi didn't like other werewolves.

Ressi's last unfortunate confrontation with another werewolf resulted in a one-sided bashing that Ressi wasn't inclined to forgive. He deeply resented this encounter; the veracious werewolf had attempted to strangle the much younger Ressi, and consequently took half of Ressi's voice with him -- forever marring Ressi's ability to speak, and his ability to trust his very own species. As Ressi studied this new werewolf, he reflexively grasped the long broad sword attached to his side with his left hand. Experience had taught him that he was altogether too scrawny for a werewolf, and that only his one forged tool proved to be more effective at warding off opponents than his own inferior claws.

But why was Ressi so curious?

Those werewolves were stupid, belligerent. How could she be any different? Why should I risk myself here?

But yet, there was just one particular observation about the she-wolf that Ressi couldn't ignore; she may seem violent and brutal, but her eyes were remarkably lucid, belying a certain undeniable amount of intelligence and clarity that Ressi simply did not expect. Should I...communicate?

After living years in animalistic solitude, scouring the countryside for whatever sparked his interest, Ressi wasn't exactly up to par on social propriety. Wracking his mind for an acceptable approach to the situation, he took one dismissive step back, lowered his head, and forced out a raspy, quiet growl:

"Who are you?"
"We are not always what we seem, and hardly ever what we dream."

Her mind split between the intensely intelligent half of her teenage brain and the more merciless reckoning of her lupine side, Versa inched forward at her interrogator. Eyes glowing with a desire to communicate turned onto him, now closer to his level as Versa leaned down.

The foe made it clear by his docile question and raspy, innocuous voice that he meant no harm. Even Versa, as aggressive as she was, could discern the difference between a creature's curiosity and intrusion. No one could be trusted instantaneously, yet as she watched him place a handpaw on the hilt of his sword, the action was interpreted as one of reactionary defense, not hostility. The snarl that followed was quiet and non-threatening.

The massive she-wolf crouched, impressive muscles in her thighs bunching at the effort. She braced herself against the blanket of snow with her right hand. Still, the moon shone above the two of them. A vague sense of inability passed through Versa's mind, staring at the white orb in the sky, for she wasn't able to speak in this form. Canine body language was fine until a need for specificity ruined its usefulness. Without a way to vocalize her own identity, Versa was frustrated for a miniscule moment, until she glanced down at her paws tucked in the snow.

Nearby was a long branch that must have been knocked loose from the recent snowstorm. Versa picked it up effortlessly and gripped it between her leathery fingers. Her handpaws were so human it was eerie. She grunted and faced the intruder.

Just like a child scrawling messages in the sand at a beach, Versa began to etch into the fresh white layer on the ground with the stick in her left paw. By way of her handpaws, which were deft and able to craft just as well as her fully human hands, Versa spelled out a single sentence.

My name is Versa.

When finished, she rose to her full height once more and turned to the other lycanthrope with a sullen, yet still cautious, countenance upon her face.
