The thing about having a custom title is that I have to assign it to that person.

I have to create a new rank, type in the info, then assign it.

It'll be best if we have more titles under legendary.

I don't know how easy or hard it would be to implement these, but here are a couple custom title mods available for phpBB:

In the meantime, how about these titles:

0-4: Nothing
5-9: Just Bitten
10-19: First Change
20-29: Dealing with the Change
30-49: Junior Pack Member
50-99: Pack Member
100-174: Senior Pack Member
175-299: Pack Leader
300-449: Pack Elder
450-599: Renowned
600+: Legendary

Note: I adjusted the scale a bit. This will make it so that only three members are Legendary right now, but that number is going to increase soon, I imagine, as there are three more in the 500 range, plus a dozen more regular posters standing at over 300.

Oh my. I never made any modifications to a phpBB before. What I can do is practice on my phpBB board. I dare not do it here unless I know what I'm doing 1st.

you know. I don't mind typing in a custom title. If that person chooses to have one. Thing is, it has to be above Legendary. 1000 posts and you have a custom title.

We did that for a little while, but too many people were upset by the change, so we put it back. We probably won't be changing the rating system again any time soon.

Goldenwolf, Stormdancer and ABrownrigg spoke out strongly against it; there were also a few other expressions of dislike, though of a smaller magnitude, along with a fair number who expressed regret at having lost Legendary status.

The new system didn't last more than half a day, if that.

Actually, it starts earlier in the thread than that, but the one you pointed to is the first outright argument against.

Ultimately, people are going to mis-take the ranking as a reflection of contribution, which is not the case -- but since enough people will think of it that way, it may as well be. Inevitably, it will upset people to 'lose' rank, when, in reality, nothing has changed -- they still have the exact same post-count they always did.

But what the ranking does do is force a new distinction between Legendary with low post-count and Legendary with high post-count. This difference has always existed, but now it would be emphasized. And I can understand why those in the first category wouldn't like that. Although, I can't help but think that if we had started with this system, nobody would feel slighted, and they would not care so much that they had a different rank.

Hmmm, that's actually not a bad scale there. I like that a lot better. Makes more sense to me and stuff. I don't need to be Legendary, I just like to be recognized as a participating pack member.
