There has been a document on DiscoveryChannel that included such cases. Imagine that they occured not in the wild, but among the people. One of them even in an urban area where all the residents could intervene, but they didn't. After something was done about it, they even claimed that nothing like this had happened. Hearing about all of this, sometimes I'm ashamed to be human!

You should watch this if possible.

It's another case you're talking about. I was writing about that boy in the eastern Europe. Yet, it's the same programme and I guess it's just as you're saying. Village, drunk parents and the dog in the yard that had taken care of the girl.
And these still weren't the worst ones. Remember the father who had kept his daughter isolated in a dark room from her earliest childhood? I can't imagine what he was thinking! Some people are simply sick!
:x
Once again: You should watch this if possible.

I really don't know. I've seen it on local Discovery Channel, so you see. Perhaps something might be on their Internet site...

Role reversal anyone? I suppose it would've been nice if my cats ever bothered to pick up their fur after themselves (and cleaned the rest of the house) half as often as they cleaned themselves...

I'm one of those people that believe that regardless what you are, you are capable of anyghing. Including adoption. One of the cats I used to have years ago used to clean my hair (if she caugt me lying down or sitting somewhere that she could get access to my scalp. For some reason, freshly washed (and shampood) hair didn't sit right with her.

More painful than a backrub, yet more comforting than most of my ex-fiances. (granted, they're X'd out for good reasons - no regrets)...

Likewise. If you watch more than one episode of Amazing Animal Videos or Animal Miracles on Animal Planet, inevitably you'll see a story about an animal odd-couple. There's tons of them out there:

The Cat and the Grizzly Bear
Lioness Adopts an Oryx... Six times!
And I couldn't find a good article on it, but Coco the gorilla had a pet kitten named Ball.

I didn't have that in mind at the time I wrote, but I do recall the lioness adopting an oryx (it was for the fifth time when I read it). It might be that the lioness is starting on keeping livestock, or has something completely different in mind?
