Pan's Labyrinth - Now this looks cool...

This was one of my favorite films in the last year! It had a nice open-ended question that I won't spoil. The first film I've seen by this direction but it won't be the last. I had a blast even though the only theater in the area playing it was incredibly expensive so I had to pay $10.00 a ticket (yes, you read that correctly -- the most expensive ticket price ever -- though they do have 1 IMAX screen that you can see what's playing for the same price).

my local theater finally got Pan's Labyrinth, so i saw this one tonight!

woot! talk about an amazing movie! i'll very very very gladly purchase this one when it comes out on dvd. i mean, wow, this movie is a good one.

and yeah, Fauno was incredible. and the hombre palido was awesome, too! and wow, the toad was crazy! ooh, i loved this movie! it blew my mind!

and wanna know what? the guy what did the Fauno and the hombre palido was the same guy what did Abe Sapien in Hellboy. and, he was also PencilHead in Mystery Men and he was the 4th tartutic in Lady in the Water. he didn't do the voice of any (cept pencilhead) but he was the guy in each of the suits for the other movies.

but wow, that movie was wondrous. if you haven't seen it yet, you definitely should.

He was also Mac Tonight in the old 1980s McDonald's commercials. It was his first acting gig.

I agree, Doug Jones is an incredible physical actor!

So. Very dark, very sad, and very, very, VERY good. Definitely worth the hour's drive to see it. Loved the ogre, loved the faun even better. Comparing Fauno to Tumnus...I'd have to tip for Fauno, if only by a slim margin. But Fauno had better horns and neat spirals on his forehead and had a great, wise, creaky-old-tree voice. Tumnus was a sweet forest creature, but Fauno was a minor force of nature with equal amounts of love and anger.

It's not as artsy or surreal as I thought it would be. The Fountain and Night Watch had more along those lines. The sets were wonderful, especially the ogre's lair. Definitely in the same vein as Hellraiser and Company of Wolves and Legend.

I won't say anything else because I don't want to spoil it. Surprisingly enough, there's not a lot of intricate plotting but the visuals and the acting make up for that. And hey, you're gonna love Fauno. If it's playing near you, go see it. If it's not playing near you, keep your ear to the ground and pick up the DVD.

Edit: If you're a Clive Barker fan, I especially encourage you to see it. He had nothing to do with it but there's a definite Barkerian influence.
Oh man the ogre/monster part scared the heck out of me! And the faun was beautiful...very earthy looking. I liked this movie a lot. The girl who plays Ofelia was just awesome.

Holy crap, I nearly died when I saw him (by the way, he's called the Pale Man). I am now forever haunted by globe grapes...But yes, I just love the Faun, though at first I was a little afraid of him...But then I warmed up to his rough way of talking, and I feverently wished to see him during all the scary/violent/brutal scenes in the movie. I saw Pan's Labyrinth lasy friday, and I'm still buzzing about it - I cannot get this movie out of my head - I want to give the Faun a hug. Seriously. This is one movie I'LL be camping out to get in stores.

I'd have taken a handful and used the knife on the Pale Man if he came after me. The rules stated that you couldn't eat anything there, they didn't say anything about taking something, leaving and eating it later. (But I get a sneaking suspicion that everything on that table was the remains of past victims, so they'd probably turn out to be eyes outside of his lair)

I agree, El Fauno was definitely huggable. Sure, he has bark for skin but he just exudes huggability.

The better news is, it's now playing in Eugene so as soon as I can scare up $8 I'm gonna go see it again. Can't even wait until the DVD comes out, I hear it'll be April.

Adventures of Baron Munchausen fans, attention!

I just found out that one of the filming locations was the same ruined town that they used in AoBM...and that town was ruined in the Spanish Civil War, so this time it was actually used in context.

Getting close to historically-accurate documentarism, here!

OH MAN!!!!!!!!!. Saw this yesterday at our local multiplex. I saw The Host as well, but first this movie.

This was an really really awesome movie. It was both scary and sad. I cried in the end, and i,m a 34 years old male. I think there was more people that cried but i paid no attentaion to them. The music is amazing. Gotta love the soundtrack

The faun was.... AHHH!! awesome!!!!!!!. The pale man. Oboy, talking about scary. The toad was way cool too.

I saw some parents bringing some children, THIS IS NOT, an children movie. There is a lot of violence and the pale man could surely give the young ones nightmares.

By the way, the grapes, i wouldnt touch them. When this comes out on DVD, i will buy it. Maybe i will buy the soundtrack as well.

An excellent movie.
I had to look away during certain parts (anyone who's seen it knows which ones) but overall this is one of the best movies I've seen in years. Dark, scary, and bloody, yet beautiful and inspiring.

I definitely reccomend this movie to anyone who likes fairy tales and can take some blood and violence.

(Scariest Creature? Vidal.)
