Bus fare is always cheepest, but is the most uncomfortable means of travel.

Since your in the military - Greyhound charges no more than $199 round trip, if memory serves. But, it's not fast - cheap, but not fast. Set aside about $20/day of travel for food, batteries, etc.
Everyday should be Towel Day.
