DOSBox can be a real pain to use sometimes. I would recommend also downloading D-Fend, a frontend for DOSBox. You don't have to go through the trouble of mounting or redoing the settings every time you play a game. You can set up profiles that save the mounting location and all the rest of the configuration.ravaged_warrior wrote:Damn, keep finding new games to play. I just found the first Elder Scrolls (most recent game was Oblivion) game online last night. It's ugly as hell (understandable for a game that old), but the customization and size of the world map is incredible for a game that old. I don't even think most new game worlds are that big, save for the Elder Scroll sequels and MMORPGs. Kind of a pain in the a** to get out of the place you start in, though, since it's some kind of sewer and a bunch of rats, goblins, and a lizard man want you dead. Back to the size of the world, though, there's actually a feature that lets you check how long it will take you to get to each place. I checked how far it would take me to go from where I was (I think it was some town on Summurset Island, maybe the capital) to the furthest town away (someplace in Morrowind), and apparently it would take 105 in game days over more than 4000 kilometers. The days in the game aren't as long as regular days, but that's pretty big. The town I'm in right now is big for a video game, too. Unfortunately, I can't get into most of the buildings because they're locked, and when I tried to break the door, a guard yelled "Stop, thief!" (there's some limited voice support, too) and kicked my a**, so I don't know if they're actually openable, but I suppose they probably are.
Crappy plot, though.
Quick note: If you go to the link and end up downloading it (that is, if people actually read this post...), here's some instructions on how to run it if you're running a Windows computer (sorry Mac users, I don't know how different the program is on yours, but I know of at least one program that works completely different on my friends Mac, despite being the same exact program, so I doubt this will work for you):
1. Download and install the game directly to the C:\ drive.
2. Go here and download the DOS emulator DOSBox. You need it to run the game. Also install it directly in the C:\ drive. I think you need to do that, anyway. At the very least it doesn't hurt.
3. Open DOSBox and type in "mount c c:\arena". That will make C:\Arena the starting drive.
4. Type "c:". That will open C:\Arena.
5. Once you see "C:\>", type in "Arena".
6. The game will start. It will appear to run normally, but when you actually start the gameplay, it will be running slow. To avoid this, hold Ctrl and press F12. Get the CPU to about 15000 or more until the emulator is running the game at a good speed. (you must do steps 3-6 every time you want to play the game)
7. Good, you've got the game running efficiently, DOSBox is doing good, what's left? Go here. It's the manual to the game, everything else you need to know is in there. Have fun... Both of you who actually took the time to read this.

If you're just using DOSBox, take the folder MDK is in and put it directly in the C:\ menu. This is how I do it to keep from spending to much time on this kind of stuff. Next, type in "mount c c:\*folder name here*". Then, type c:. Enter the name of the EXE file (type in "dir" if you don't know it, or just go check the folder). That should start it. Unless... Unless you need a CD. If so, put it in the CD-ROM drive and type "mount d d:\ -t cdrom" and that'll set it up as the CD-ROM drive. Unless it isn't D:\, in which you just replace D with whatever the drive is.Shadow Wulf wrote:Oh god this is confusing. Im trying to play MDK using that DOS crap.
could you guys help me?
Or, if you're using D-Fend, open up D-Fend, click the wizard hat, type in the name of your game, choose the options you want, and then browse for the EXE file. Click >>. It'll bring up another set of options. You probably won't know which to choose yet, so just choose next. It PROBABLY won't matter, but if you need to change the cycles later (more cycles runs the game faster), do so. Click >>. Here, just click Auto Create, I don't think it matters. If you need to use a CD, though, follow that up with Add, then choose Mount Type > CD-ROM. Then, choose Browse and select the D:\ (or whatever) drive the CD will be in. If you've got the CD.ID file saved in a different folder (you pirate, you), just look for that. Click OK. The next options can probably be skipped. There you go, all done. You might want to set it up to run in full screen so you don't have to always press Alt+Enter, so just right click, choose Edit Profile, go to the General tab, and tell it to run in full screen every time.
Hope that helps. Thanks again, ArcaneWerewolf.

I'll just make this easy. Go to "My Computer". Open C:\. Open Program Files. Find the MDK folder. Open it and copy the MDK program. Go back to C:\. Right click and paste. When you open DOS, type this:Shadow Wulf wrote:Alright just tell me exactly what to type please. mount c c:\
It'll tell you that you shouldn't do that. Ignore it. Then, type the name of the file you just pasted.

Hell yeah, thanks again to ArcaneWerewolf. I can't stress enough how much better it is with D-Fend. Needed some tweaking to get fullscreen working, though. That was kinda weird.Shadow Wulf wrote:nevermindI got it to work, that dfend works great.

Get this, I can play the game fine without using dos or dfend. anymore, all I have to do is click on the mdk95.exe and it starts as if the game was installed.

Is it a DOS game? I never heard about it being one before. But yeah, they'll usually run, but for the most part not well. They usually don't have sound, and for some reason on my computers they tend to be placed slightly to the left.Shadow Wulf wrote:Get this, I can play the game fine without using dos or dfend. anymore, all I have to do is click on the mdk95.exe and it starts as if the game was installed.
But wait... It wasn't running like that before? That is weird.

Wow, thanked 3 times. You're welcome
Since I'm posting here, I may as well post what I've been playing. I came across an old PC action RPG series called Neophyte. The game could have seen a commercial release, but the company disbanded before finishing the series and made all the currently completed ones available as freeware.
The first one is a bit on the mediocre side, but I may as well finish what I started.

Hey...thanks for the Heads-Up on that "D-Fend" program. I've had ES:I Arena for a while now, but it was just too frustrating to get into, because of startup, and having to adjust my settings each time.
Now that I can just Click an Icon and jump right into the game, (like a NORMAL game) I might actually give this a real shot.
...I guess you know what game I'm playing now.

And now I have yet another game - Final Fantasy III. It's awesome, the graphics are great for DS. The textures could use some work, though. I like seeing 3D FMVs on the DS, though, that's cool to see. The controls, especially, are awesome. I've been using the stylus, and it actually works great. In addition to that awesome stuff, there's a new quicksave feature that allows you to save wherever you are and pick up from that point later. There are a couple problems, though... As I said, the textures are bad, that's one. There's also the fact that the plot is pretty much a more complex rehash of the first game's plot. Your characters will sometimes act like morons. Sometimes you'll click a chest, and it'll be on the other side of a gap, but rather than run around it, they'll run straight at it and run in place until you make them do something else. The top screen is insanely underutilized. When outside of a dungeon, it shows a map. When you're inside a dungeon, it's just black. When you press menu, the bottom screen switches to the top screen and then the bottom screen shows the menu. That's it. Still, not bad to have a map on the top screen, I usually used that huge see-through map in the other games when I could. The airship only moves in eight directions. Just thought that was weird, since your character moves in full 360 degree movement. Also, this one time I forgot that quicksaves get erased when you load them and I turned it off without doing another one. That was my fault, but it still pissed me off. Why not just set up regular saves to work like that? Why force people to save outside or at a save point? Hell, where are the save points? I haven't seen any. Luckily, the good outweighs the bad.
Anyway, from the small amount I've played, it's a solid game, 8/10.

AWESOME game... I still like it better than Oblivion...but Oblivion rocks too. Nice armament you've got there...but you've got Nothing on my man Samuel Moonshadow.Lukas wrote:still play morrowind(3 elder scroll) on red moutain with my nord, have the gold grand, wrath guard, dradric left gaunlet, dradic greaves, ebony boots, bearclaw helm, keener, 2 ebony shouldar guards, and cassius'es dark shirts, im in ginses looking for the 3rd ash vampire on my trip to weaken dagoth Ur and save morrowind
I'd have to think about that...it's been a while since I last played...not including once a month ago when I decided to boot it up and wipe out the entire city of Vivec in one run...(without cheating even).Lukas wrote:i got a Q, does anyone know where i can get a spell that well allow me to custimize my own spell that will weaken my common diease resitance? since i want to get the eltonbrand but since i passed the 3rd trial im immune to all the dieases, and i need to become a vampire to get elton brand
I don't know much about the vampire quests because I always avoided them, or just wiped them out. Actually...once I learned how, I started befriending the vampires instead and robbing their strongholds blind right behind their backs without killing any of them. ...it was sooo funny... (well...to me anyway).
...I LOOOOOVE that game...

yup i quote exactly
also i am master thief of the thief's guild, archmaster of the Redoran house, and medium ranks in other areas, im level 29 and got a ton of loot stashed at my manor and Arhissas house(includind ebony longsword, some dradic katanias, the best light armor curcass, and Azuras star, etc.) i plan on going back to my manor, dropping my curretn loot of there, and then go to my other loot and move it all to my manor, then i will go on a search for dadric weapons to collect, also i have plent of gold in teh 50K region gotta love teh mudcrap merchant
also i have a winged twlight in teh Azuras star since i head it can be used over and over(i dont have the patenience to get vivic )
i plan on restarted with a aragon but im not sure, im still thinking about it(im really prefere to bea warrior/thief and not a mage unless i got enchanted items )
also as a side note, i dont have teh GOTY editon, so im stuck to morrowind onlyEltonbrand
Sirilonwe
Ah, Eltonbrand- an exquisite sword and, from my opinion, the best sword in the Morrowind game. If you ask me, this is the most well-hidden easter egg in the game, and the chances that you will be able to get this sword in the game by accident are close to zero. I, for one, found out about this sword by carefully analyzing Sirilonwe's dialogue (she's a mage in Vivec City's Guild of Mages). But more about that later.
In order to get Eltonbrand, you must have Goldbrand in your inventory, be a vampire and have at least 11171 gold pieces. Must I refresh your memory as to what Goldbrand is? It's the one-handed long sword that you get as a reward for completing Daedra Prince Boethiah's quest. Now, as I was saying, you must talk to Sirilonwe and complete her first quest, which involves killing a rival of hers and bringing her a key in that rival's possesion. You must not have already killed that rival, since, if he's already dead, you won't be able to get Eltonbrand. So, when you return to Sirilonwe to claim your reward, you must have exactly 11171 gold pieces and Goldbrand in your inventory (just throw your extra gold on the floor) in order to get a very strange message besides Sirilonwe's normal dialogue. Here's Sirilonwe's normal dialogue:
"Excellent. Sometimes I wonder if it is not a good thing your kind exists. You may keep whatever else you found on his corpse. I'm sure that the fool had something of use to you. If you are still looking for something to do, I require some vampire dust for a spell I'm researching."
Now, below that dialogue, you'll get the following message:
"Go to Hell, Carolina!"
Basically, by completing Sirilonwe's quest the way I said (not having had killed Shashev, her rival, before she asked you), a script called "bluescript" starts. This script checks to see if the PC has Goldbrand and 11171 gold in his inventory and, if he does, Goldbrand is replaced by the much better Eltonbrand, whose object ID is "katana_bluebrand_unique".
But many questions remain. Why 11171 and not some other number? Why Eltonbrand? Why the part about Carolina? Alvirdimus did some research about this easter egg, which was later confirmed by Mark Nelson (AKA BlueDev), the one who put the easter egg in the game in the first place. First of all, 11171 is a reference to Mark Nelson's date of birth, the 1st of November 1971. Second of all, Mark went to Duke college, which had a basketball team by the name of "Duke Blue Devils", which is likely the reason why he chose the nickname BlueDev. Also, the NBA basketball player Elton Brand played on this team. And, about the Carolina part, it would appear that the North Carolina Tarheels are the Blue Devils' most hated rivals. Thanks, Alvirdimus.
More information about the Goldbrand sword can be found in the Artifacts of Elder Scrolls section.

Wow, this got knocked way down... But since I've got a crapload of new games that I've been playing (thank you, Abandonia!), I've decided to knock it back up (does that sound wrong or what?). Anyway, I've been playing Wolf, Frontier: First Encounters, Albion, DinoPark Tycoon, Lemmings, Duke Nukem 3D (this had nothing to do with Abandonia, though), and Wing Commander. I'd like to play Frontier a little more, but it's a huge pain in the a**. Nearly every time I enter a star system, I get attacked by people for no apparent reason. Sometimes, but only sometimes, this is manageable, though long-winded, but usually it's some crazy group of space assholes with lasers that kill me as soon as I know that I'm being attacked. Now, even this would be okay if it were rare, but instead it's rare that I'm not attacked! I have to save whenever I land successfully! Anyone got any idea of what I should do? It seems like an amazing game otherwise, since, as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy says, "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space." This applies surprisingly well here. Space in Frontier: First Encounters is HUGE, which is one of the reasons I'd like to be able to trade without getting killed all the time - so I can explore it. It's like Elder Scrolls: Arena in space. Even the attack thing reminds me of something from Arena... When I would take the quest to fight the Dark whatever, I'd get attacked whenever I tried to sleep. Frontier's quite a bit prettier, though. I'll supply a video sometime. It really is amazing.
Also, today I'm going to buy Crackdown, since the demo is so awesome.
