Is anybody annoyed...(with help creating a universe thread)
by the fact that I keep pimping my "Need help creating a universe..." thread around when I put up new stuff on it? I'm guessing not because barely anyone responds to it.

Well put, Pariahpoet. I'm the same way.PariahPoet wrote:Not annoyed at all. It's just I think most people are like me and have no idea how to help. I've never designed anything like that, so you're much more qualified in that area than I am. How can I help someone who knows what they're doing when I don't?

*shrugs* The same reason I dont go into the roleplaying or comic book sections. Not really any interest...or time to read stories online for that matter. Good luck with your story though. I find reading helps me. It makes me figure out what I DONT want.Dreamer wrote:It's on the story ones, the Non-Were related ones (although there is a werewolf in it). And why don't you look there?! I allways like to look there, mainly because I don't know where to find good werewolf fiction except for here and a few webcomics that rarely get updated.
You are the only light there is for yourself my friend
Also, this thread was kind of intended as promotion for the aforementioned "Need help creating a universe..." thread in the "Creative Writing(Other)" section. So if anyone is reading this and has any writing skills, could you maybe post on there and help me fill in the gaps for some of the characters (You'll know where the gaps are when you read through the profiles).

Here's the reason why I didn't participate. When someone asks something as general as "Help me make up a comic book universe", it's like, "help me paint a picture of a character, but I don't know what it looks like". But in all honesty, mostly I avoided the thread because when it comes down to something like writing a comic, you should be more than capable to write your own stuff, rather than take what others give you. If you do it on your own, you're more likely to suprise everyone with something unique. Also, it wouldn't be your comic if several people helped create the universe.
In any art form, whether it's writing, painting, or music... having multiple people working on the core basis of the composition will make things look sloppy. One person might say the planet has less gravity than Earth. One might miss this and say that the planet has fist sized rocks that are too heavy to lift. Misinformation between writers can cause all kinds of havoc.
Just do what I do. Sit down and think about the world as you know it. What would you change? What things about it would create conflict with the inhabitants? What would be considered marvels of nature? What in the environment would cause your characters to be the way they are?
I spent years adding to ideas for my for a TV/movie series, which will probobly be released as a role play game if I can get around to doing the art for it.
