A Hilarious plot device I've found...

Post by Kzinistzerg »

... And so, to keep up a spirit of levity in here...

I read a story in an old IASFM. Basically it goes like this.

Bartender is working late. One of the regulars is there, complaining about his wife. Another one comes in. he's pissed. seems he bought a magic medallion from another bar-goer that was meant to turn the owner into a werebird. The buyer rants about how he turned into a rabbit instead. As the seller pulls up in his car, the bartender and the other two go outside to meet him. Argument ensues; the buyer dents the seller's car. The seller claims he did change into a bird, the buyer says he couldn't have. The regular offers to take the medallion off his hands; he'll give it to his wife, who can then be the wererabbit. The buyer agrees. the regular drives off.

The seller tells the buyer not to touch his car again; it's an old classic. The bartender says ti's a old piece of junk, and what type was it anyway? the seller says, a Falcon. Then he asks what the buyer drives; he responds, a Rabbit. They stare at each other for a moment.

"So what does the other guy drive?"

"A beetle."

"Oh, he's going to have a lot of fun..."

"He was brining it to his wife..."

"what does she drive?"

They look up as the sky turns very very bright...

"... A supernova..."

Heh....supernova. Good one. :D

Actually....the real name of that car is the "Nova Super Sport."

Then there's the "Mercury Comet" and before that... the "Mercury Meteor."

Other cars with animal names.

Ford Mustang, Mercury Cougar, Corvette Stingray, Chevy Impala, Plymouth Barracuda, Ford Thunderbird, Pontiac Firebird, Ford Falcon, Ford Bronco, Mercury Lynx.....

And there is the "Reliant Kitten."

I think there is more out there. :D

So if you owned a Dodge Neon. What would you become?

Neon gas? or a Neon light bulb? Or just glow like neon lights maybe?

funny concept there.

So if I ever succeed in getting a Smart Car in the U.S., will that medallion make me a genius?

And if anybody tells any jokes about my mother's Ford Escort, they're dead.

A fire bird or a Jaguar are the types of cars to have with this thing.

There's also the Hillman Husky, Commer Cob (those two are virtually the same car, the main difference being that the Commer Cob was more a trade vehicle, a bit like a Morris Traveller... my father's first car was a sort of hybrid of the two); the Humber Super Hawk and Humber Super Snipe; Datsun Bluebird and Nissan Bluebird (same company, they changed name some time about 1980) and the Reliant Robin, just going off the top of my head.

Mitsubishi had real problems with non-Japanese languages... they had a Colt, and a "Starion"... and their version of a Remuera tractor had a name that I'm not going to repeat here because I think some people here actually know some Spanish...

The vehicles I've got at the moment are a Subaru Legacy and a Suzuki Katana, so I'd have ended up either as just a batch of papers or else a lump of steel. Nothing particularly amusing.

Where the cars have no name

What if you're driving a luxury vehicle with numbers instead of a name, like a Lexus ES350? Do you turn into some kind of chemical cleaner or drug compound? Would someone driving a Cadillac DTS turn into a 6.1 channel amplifier?
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

A 6.1 channel amplifier? How many watts in the shifted form? We're getting into Transformers territory here.

And that "Reliant Kitten" looks like a Yugo...as in You Go to the garage frequently.

kinda tough luck when you drive an F-150 though...maybe a souped-up F-15 Eagle or something? :p

Though that may be taking our transformers theme a little too far...
The wind whipping past my face...
The underbrush combing through my fur...
The earth flying beneath my paws...
Am I alive?

Possibly that, or a somewhat pudgy fighter.

What about the Japanese domestic car names? Strange doesn't come close.
