Hmmm... I hope it's a Warcraft movie and not a World of Warcraft movie. A WOW movie would probably be a generic fantasy quest, but since Warcraft is an RTS, it would be a fantasy war movie. Or maybe it'll be like Lord of the Rings and be both.

On Attack of the Show on G4 they said it's not going to be a "quest" movies, but more like a "war" movie. It'll take place several years before the storyline in WOW.

So more about the pact of Horde and Alliance against the Burning Legion than the little skirmishes they had with each other afterwards, right? That might be interesting.

That sounds like it would be fun. Well, as long as it doesn't suck, as game movies tend to do. Hopefully it doesn't, I have the first Warcraft and it is very good, though you can only control four soldiers at a time.

Video game movies are very easy to screw up, but they said in the interview they were trying to make an epic movie. Epic movies are generally really hard to screw up, because even a movie with the shallowest of plots (which Warcraft does not have) can win over the audience with some really cool battle scenes. So it's a combination of two movie genres, one which has never been done wrong, and one which has never been done right. At the very least, it'll be interesting to see how this does with the reviews.

I just hope the orcs look better than they did in The Lord of the Rings.

Hmmm... I have high hopes for this movie now that I know that it's not based on World, but I think I may have a rebuttal for your epic movie argument: Eragon. The book sucked, too, but I hear the movie sucked for it's own reasons.

If it's 100% CG, I'm sure it will keep the die hard Warcraft fans happy. I just hope they don't make the story like FF7:Advent Children, where you have to have played the games to understand what is going on. A reintroduction of characters is ALWAYS important in a film. Even for sequels.

My vote goes towards a Starcraft movie, if only.

That was not an epic movie. That was just a crap action flick that was advertised as one.

Actually you dont even need to play half of FF7 in order to understand Advent Children, all you need to know is the basic story of it and some key stuff to know about the game.

*nods* They pretty much sum up whatever you need to know in the opening prologue. The original storyline was only that complex because they didn't reveal everything at first. Anything they don't say in the prologue (like that Cloud was never a real Soldier) is hinted at early on.

I think you're missing the point I was making. :| I'm just saying that you can't expect an audience to already know everything about any particular character. Movies made after games sometimes do that and bomb as a result.

I agree. Advent Children did a poor job of reintroducing the characters. To be honest, I didn't think it was a very good movie at all.

It isn't World of Warcraft, wolf4life, it's Warcraft. They're adapting the original.

The thing about Advent Children was that a lot of the characters were pretty much just cameos. . . So they really didn't need introductions. Apart from Tifa and Vincent, the entire group was pretty much summed up as "Cloud's allies from two years prior."

Actually, fan geeks tend to be the most vicious in the reviews for not being "true to the original."

I'm a Warcraft fan so I will probably like it, though like Kaebora said, it's a little difficult to reintroduce characters without going to into a lecture over their entire history, so then you end up not explaining much of anything, especially with central characters who have a rich history behind them, i.e. Thrall, Tyrande, Sargeras, etc.
So I think they may actually go with totally new characters from the Warcraft Universe-or at least characters that played more of a side-role previously-and then just show the Movie from their view.

I don't know anything about Warcraft either. I dislike most "fantasy" oriented games. It's just standard script writing that I'm talking about.
