Got home from seeing Eugene Opera's "The Magic Flute" about an hour ago...currently snuggling the cat, listening to La Boheme and listening to loonies shooting off fireworks over by the river.
No worries, there won't be a fire. It's freezing cold and icy here, and they got the whole Willamette River to tell any fires that might break out to shut the hell up.
But, there was a nasty spin-out-flip-over-crunch crash right on the curve up to my exit, only a quarter mile from my place, when I came home. Police were on top of it and taking care of the people, though. Might be drunk, more likely just skidded on the ice.
But, the Opera was good, I got to meet most of the cast and some of the crew at the after-party. The Star-Flaming Queen gave me a hug goodnight, so I'm feeling blessed by the Sky Goddess to start off the new year. She blew the roof off the opera house when she did her Mad Scene and the Three Ladies stole the show. New Year's morning, a little down, mostly up, dovetailed. Such is life.
Happy New Year, everyone!
P.S.: Saw the guy who sang Sarastro's part when I was leaving for home. He was going to his car. I rolled down the window and gave him a "Es lieben Sarastro!" and bowed. He gave me a big smile and wished me a Happy New Year

Years may come (many years are still ahead)
Years may go (many years have passed)
They belong to Yes-ter-day,
But still the feelings last!
Some were Good (couldn't stop the laughter)
Some were Bad (couldn't stop the tears)
For each one, Let's be glad!*
A very Happy New Year to all the Were's, Wolves, writers, and wishers- at The Pack's Den.

Wow Fig, what a [bad] way to start off the new year. Hope it gets put out soon and that no new fires start.

People just couldn't help themselves. They know a fire can start from the dry conditions we have here. But NooOOOoooooOOOOoooO!!
