Actually, that's a good idea. Range would be limited by tha amount of volume/pressure available, but for short trips-not a bad idea at all.

One little problem, though: the vehicle itself seems a bit inappropriate for anything other than real short commutes.

Not only that, instead of carrying a spare gas can, all you'd need was a tire pump...and muscles...

It'd be a good way to get the world in shape, haha. Both in terms of health and in terms of not digging through the earth for oil and such.

shall we invest in air compressors while they're still cheap? heh

Saw that on some tv show too :D I'd love to see these take over, but I really doubt it.
The oil companies have a ton of power and money, so as long as their is still gas on earth, that is what we'll be forced to use. They still have a good bit more money to drain from people :P Anyone ever see the documentary, 'Who Killed the Electric Car'?

Good thing I have a compressed air can. I can already picture the future....*air is running out in the world and air inflation occurs due to all the pollution.

Holy cow! Imagine maybe twenty years down the road, when carbon nanotube reinforced materials could allow those air tanks to be almost paper-thin. My classic dream car 2008 Tesla Roadster will look like a clunky guzzler by comparison to the kind of sports cars hurling themselves along.
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

I think RedEye hit the nail on the head. Right now it's impractical for anything other than short commutes, but hey, you've got to start somewhere. With the right kind of funding, I'm sure they could improve the design so it could get a hundred miles per refill.

Also, I don't know about you, but having to use a pump instead of walking to and/or getting towed to the closest gas station sounds like a much nicer alternative. :D

It looks like a perfect city car- the range is long enough for getting to work and back, it wouldn't be a problem to set up enough "air stations" (or to find a power outlet for compressor), and it would make wonders for air pollution in cities. And for longer trips there would still be normal cars.
BTW It also looks like a perfect underwater engine :)

Only difficulty with water-on or under is that it is not only a lot denser than air (drag) it offers less traction than the ground (cavitation).

Basically, you'd use more air to go the same distance.

If, however, you used liquified air (or one of the gasses in air) you could get some substantial mileage increases and air conditioning at the same time (as the liquid "boils" to produce gas for the engine).

The tankage wouldn't have to be as burst proof either-just very well insulated. :o

Sheesh...even the hybrid (air and petrol) car they mentioned for longer journeys would be so much better when it comes to gas. LA to NYC with ONE TANK!!! Sign me up!

Let's all keep in mind one thing here, though: this isn't non-polluting transportation- the pollution just happens elsewhere.*

Still, anything that reduces the amount of pollution in the cities is a good idea, and if there were ennough of them; they'd be safer to drive as well.
Nowadays-these lightweight cars are nearly as risky as either a bicycle or motorcycle; only their cage construction helps anywhere in the safety area.

*In the U.S. and other industrialized nations, fossil fuel is still the main source of electrical power. France has more nuclear generators than just about anywhere else-so there, air power is a good thing. Here- it just moves the pollution to the "Four Corners" area and the coal power generation system there...and Canada. Oh well...

There's gonna be poluuting even with the CLEANEST cars. So I say ignore it, quit hindering progress with environmental nitpicking, and lets finally get these cars on the market.

Hey! I just got my Cobra not too long ago, and I wanna enjoy it for a while damnit!! :P

There probably fine for the `city folk, but all us out hyaa in the country need lotsa range and power, lessn' we be flattened by a rig!!

I like my car. If gas gets out of hand, Ill switch to a motorcycle. They only hold about 4 gallons, and are quick and efficient.
