(Flashback) Mark getting his scar- Feb. 3, 1985
Mark and his father got out of the his father's newspaper company's shop on the night of his father's birthday. Mark's father told him to wait by their 1984 Camaro as he had to go back in the shop to get something. When Mark's father came back he saw a man wielding a knife holding it up to Mark's neck.
Some crows were on a nearby tree making noises. As Mark's father was distracting the man the crows flew down and started to attack the man causing him to cut the side of Mark's neck and head.
Mark turned around and stared at the man. Then as the man was trying to fight off the crows he disappeared and Mark fell to the ground. He woke up later at the hospital not remembering what happened and with a pretty nasty injury that will undoubtedly scar.

Day THREE
As Mark was washing his face and head his fingers brushed over the scar. He did not remember what happened that night but knew that something bad had happened. His father did not want to talk to him about it. Mark eventually stopped asking until then his parents, family, and friends just disappeared along with the house on his 13th birthday.
As Mark finished up he went to go join the others.
