Werewolf type in an RPG
in short if someone were to make an RPG game that utilizes various types of horror movie monsters, which basic character type "stats and skills wise" would you forsee the werewolf comparing too.
"Biped werewolf being the type here as that would fit best into a horror based RPG"

Voted for Rogue/Stealth/Trap masters due to personal preference.
I’m playing the assassin class on an Ultima Online free shard for years and the character also happens to be a werewolf, whose — for RP reasons not overpowered but evident superior — senses comes in handy for the daily work in human form course.
But for Gestalt, hrm... for a horror based RPG I lean towards the melee classes as well, long fangs, claws and a wholesome blood thirst as usual. However I’d love to see more spiritual touched weres like a mage or for a change’s sake even an archer.

Agreed, not specifically for one class — and after all that’s the big plus about RPGs, right? Set the stats and skills to be big & strong and head for the melee. Decide to be more spiritual, dark and emo-like and head for the necromancer with different stats and skills.Timber-WoIf wrote:my guess would be either a soldier or tracker/ranger...
really i don't think a ww would be suited to any particular class though...

Very interesting results, I never even thought of them in a rogue way, guess they can be very varied.
I personally saw them mainly in either the swordsman/melee fighter role with balanced stats, yet moderate strength as this class is stronger than the average civilian but doesn't have the high juggernaut stats of a Berserker, but I could see that too for some.
I see mainly upclose attacks and combat styles.

Clarification may be needed.
A horror game in which the biped werewolf is only one of the monsters you can choose from. Like a game with varied Horror movie classic monsters as RPG characters.
In that setting which RPG character type does the Werewolf compare too.

...Any of the above?
Realistically, the only limit is the user's imagination/game programming. The biggest factor is what kind of werewolf you would imagine. Take a look at the Black Tapestries series. The main character is able to do everything from complete berserk to stealth (though the latter is just barely mentioned at first). More practically, it would depend on the personality of the WW. If he/she is more physical, they would be more likely to go for something like a brute. The same would apply to someone who's stealthy or spiritual.
But that's me.

Black Tapestries is a werefox which in my mind at least is very different in abilities than a werewolf plus the whole demon art line thing and Kaetif practically being furres in the bodies of werebeasts.Moon_Lover wrote:...Any of the above?

Re: Werewolf type in an RPG
I'd have to go with berserker. Especially because a berserker isn't berserk all the time , so werewolf form wold be roughly the equivalent of D&D's Berserk Rage ability (or whatever it's called, I haven't played a D&D game in years, and even then I was a cleric, not a barbarian.) So when in town's and safe places, the werewolf would be a human, but during a fight he can shift into a gestalt.

I'd mainly prefer a stealth aspect, and yet it surprises me that only 3 out of 31 people chose stealth...
I guess I'm a rather patient & quiet individual.

Make that 4. I honestly belive the have to be stealthy, because without armor they're at a distinct disadvantage.takyoji wrote:I'd mainly prefer a stealth aspect, and yet it surprises me that only 3 out of 31 people chose stealth...

Re:
If I absolutely had to choose a class for comparison, I would have said the ranger too. More accurately, however, I think I would have instead treated the various monsters the same way the Forgotten Realms treats their humans, elves etc. -- by having them capable of handling all class types, but given stat benefits and penalties that make them better suited to some classes than others.Timber-WoIf wrote:my guess would be either a soldier or tracker/ranger...
really i don't think a ww would be suited to any particular class though...
The traits I would predominantly attribute to a werewolf are dexterity and constitution, and the most likely penalties I believe they would be subjected to would be to their intelligence and charisma. To me, that would make them best suited as rangers (quick and durable fighters), but not absolutely incapable of any other class type.
