Making something of the Duckie Protection kits.

Post by Vagrant »

A comic I frequently read, named Freefall, has a habit of handing out welcome baskets to its newbies on their forums. Those baskets (their own thread) contained some miscellaneous items, but they also linked to certain bits of information around the forums.

What I was thinking was that we could perhaps have a thread solely for explaining the duckie protection kit, one that would list its contents and link to helpful resources. Then those handing them out could link to that thread by way of handing that person their own kit.

So the thread would basically include the random objects we feel would protect newbies from ducks, but it would also include some instructions, and random bits and bobs which would actually explain things about the forums. For example, we could link to posts that new users might find useful. I remember there have been posts made about not proclaiming to be real weres, forum conduct, and so on that some have said should have been part of the forum rules. Perhaps we could include those as part of the kit's instructions.

If anyone's willinng to gather and present some resources on the Pack, we could also link off-site too, and pull in any Pack related resources. Basically, it would be a beginner's kit for the Pack, what we're about and so on. But it would be disguised as something entirely silly and fun.

Just a thought, anyway, I'm curious as to what the rest of you would think of such an idea...

I agree, but perhaps there are some users who want to throw duckies more than they want to protect newbies. Maybe we could attach a post-it note to the duckie, with a short greeting and some links.
