Nah.
I've read some French stories about witches cursing people to turn into werewolves...
One involved a Hugenot who just got hairy, while another involved a belt and cursed candy. Neither seemed terribly interesting.

The trouble with that is, the shape of a wolf is very complex, and the "trasferable state of being" which is Lycanthropy would require a very complex and specific set of instructions for the body to tell it how to change from one shape to another and back again.Apokryltaros wrote:So, taking a different perspective of the infectious nature of lycanthropy, why not, instead of a virus causing lycanthropy, why not a mutagen?
That is, rather than worry about a virus injecting genetic materials, why not have a protein or enzyme that either changes the necessary genes, without having to worry about turning the person into a clone of the infector or having the genes be inserted in the wrong place and cause some colossally catastrophic cancer, etc, or cause the cellular structure to become altered, like, prions, but nowhere near as unpleasantly fatal.
I don't know much about the process of Mutation, but as I understand it, all substances with mutanagenic qualities tend to have fairly unpredicatable results...changing random parts of the DNA which may cause the increased, or halted production of certain protiens and chemicals from those affected cells, which will cause abnormal, stunted or variant growth in those regions. It could make you bald, or hairier, or change your hair color, or change the texture of your skin...but most likely just produce a tumor of some sort.
Although the potential effects of a mutagen could, supposedly, cause all of the effects which result in the change from a human to a wolfish form, there are no mutagens that could cause such specific and consistant results every time. ...especially all at once. The chemical agents involved would have to contain a complex code of instructions to follow...and the only chemical/biological anomalies that I know of with those traits are DNA/RNA ETC...
...and the most common (or pehaps "only") example in nature of such coding imprinting itself upon a foreign host is the natural behavior of a "VIRUS".
We may not like the comparison...but it does seem to make the most sense.

It's not that I don't like the idea of a virus, it's just that I decided, for once, to take a new perspective.
It's like, some elements of a subject, I'll deem sancrosect and view any change as heresy (Only 9 feet tall? That small?), and other elements, I say, "Tinker, tinker, tinker!"
I mean, true, to have a mutagenic agent, rather than a virus, might be less, well, predictable, but, I dunno.
I don't think that a lycanthrope-inducing virus would necessarily cause a person to look completely identical to, or even develop some identical traits to the progenitor of the virus.

At the very least, the traits that make the alternate form "WOLF" shaped would have to be re-created in the new host.Apokryltaros wrote:I mean, true, to have a mutagenic agent, rather than a virus, might be less, well, predictable, but, I dunno.

Fur could come out in colors and patterns completely different from the Original Werewolf or the host humans features, and the muzzle could be shorter or longer than usual, the teeth and claws could be variant colors, the fur length and texture could vary, as well as numerous other "cosmetic" traits...
...but if there was not at least SOME amount of Mimicry and Consistancy from one host to another, there would be nothing stoping a Werewolf from spawing a WereLion...or WereGorilla...or WereWookie...if it was all just random. SOME consistant traits would need to be caried from one new Werewolf to the next.
...but I applaud your effort to look at this from a new angle. I am positive there are plenty of "unconventional" possibilities that we have not even considered yet.

I am not saying that your idea is invalid or ireddemably flawed...just inclomplete.
Mutation is not a simple as the old "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Cartoon (a classic favorite of mine), made it out to be.
(In that show...all one had to do is touch any Animal...then touch the Glowing Green Goo... and they would instantly "mutate" into a hybrid/anthropomorphic form of that creature.)
[Side Note:]
Do you realize just how absurdly HUGE 9 feet tall would be? On all fours, they would be about the size of a Horse...but Shaggier...and weigh almost half a TON. ...that's just silly... [/Side Note]Apokryltaros wrote:(Only 9 feet tall? That Small?)

I've seen bigger. In Vampire Hunter D, the werewolf was so big, it carried off a horse in its mouth!!

Nah. I doubt nationality would effect the look of the Were much. Most human differances are in the body's general size or skin tone, and such. Things one would hardly notice.JonathanBaine wrote:Just wondering,I'm 12 nationalities.Three happen to be![]()

Would you think it would change the apearence of the change? Maybe I'd be a rainbow were....of course, that sound's kind of..no wait....not what I meant.

At most, it would probably affect the fur-color.Aki wrote:Nah. I doubt nationality would effect the look of the Were much. Just because Mr. Gardener said it just as a theory to the unknown, does by know means mean that he should be hung by his sack, that would be like hanging Einstien or Devinci for there contraverscial and odd theries that go against the mobs view of how the world works. Not that I'am saying i would want to be a girl werewolf, that would be disturbing even more then someone being hung by there sack. Iam just defending his right to say what his ideas are.
Oh god I sound like a lawyer get it off get it off!

I know I just went into rant mode, wich gets people into thinking iam angry wich iam not, I have a very long temper. If you could talk to me face to face you would know that i didn't show the emotion of anger wich on me is very easy to see.
