Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
Oh... That's hard. Personally, I haven't given this much thought.
But in a spur-of-the-moment need for a response, I suppose it could be something along that you live to learn and enjoy what life throws at you.
Or simply: survive.
These types of questions are difficult, since they're very subjective. Answers are dependant on one's experiences, religion, society, and views on life itself.
I just have a hard time with this question because it's one that science or society cannot answer with absolute certainty. (Though at the same time I love the philosophy behind it.) We simply don't know why we are here, nor what we are supposed to do. I'd rather not find out. I live life as I go, and I try not to dwindle in the past or expect too much of the future. What happens, happens.

Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
I believe that this is a question with many religious, scientific, and philosophical answers; I also think that we may not know all of those answers. Life is so complex, experiential, subjective, and different from organism to organism. I think that anything that we presently know about life's meaning is merely the beginning of such awareness, the "tip of the iceberg" if you will. Each of us, on our own, may never find all the meaning that life has to offer, but what makes it so appealing is to see what one can learn from what is given.
Sorry if I'm being a bit vague.

Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
There is no meaning. No ready-set one-size-fits-all meaning anyway.
Life is what you make it. You can't find the meaning of life, but you can make your own.

Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
I have the answer!!! And this is it...
There is no meaning of life. Only to live life as you choose, and choose the right path.
As God intended us to do, live and rejoice with God. People shouldn’t be in worry for what is going to happen tomorrow,
it will happen anyway, whether it's bad or good you still have the next day. We should all live peacefully and not in anger
or sadness, but in happiness and joy.
there is only one answer...
and that is;
Live life.
( Whooow~ I've been wanting to do something like this. I feel happy now. )

Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
Hmm. I was wondering whether or not to respond. But I'll try.
Please understand: I consider you all my friends and I'll do my best not to be offensive or condescending. I know how terribly easy it is in this Internet medium to misinterpret and become offended, so let me state right off the bat that I want to be as friendly and gentle as possible. Please, please let that be understood.
I've gotten burned a lot when talking about this sort of thing on-line, so I've come to prefer face-to-face contact for this sort of discussion as it's harder to misinterpret. But let me just pose two questions to the readership, and I'll be out your hair:
* Are you looking for an honest response or is this just out of mild curiosity? If the former, well and good. If the latter, I advise talking about werewolves instead. It's much more pleasant and doesn't lead to venting or hurt feelings.
* Is it wise to make blanket statements based on limited human reason? To say categorically that "there is no meaning" is making the absolute denial of the absolute. It's like saying "There is no such thing as a white stone with black dots anywhere in the universe." The only way you could say that and make it stick was if you had unlimited knowledge of this universe. Since no human possesses that kind of knowledge, perhaps its best to at least take the agnostic approach. At least then you are open to evidence that could be revealed to you at a later date.
Again, your pardon for the intrusion. I hope I didn't sound harsh; that was not intended at all. I'll get back to my Inimicus project now. Happy "werewolving," my friends!

The meaning of life is to help you understand what morality and principles stand for in the eyes of God.
The purpose of life is to increase your knowledge, help you explore all you want to and have good time.

Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
I always felt that "what is the meaning of life?" is like asking "Okay, what do I do?" when playing a sandbox game.
Answer? For the sandbox game: Whatever you feel like. For Life? Similar answer, life is what you make of it. What you want to do with it. The meaning of life is not a grand and universal question, but rather a personal one. You decide for yourself what the meaning of your life is.

Tomatoes and french fries...
I'm kidding...
the meaning of life: To each his/her own... there is no meaning that every single person will accept
Purpose of life: see meaning of life
That's pretty much my idea...

There is... but we can make our destiny a little different if we try hard enough... fate gives us challenges, and we can change our fate by how we deal with said challenges...Moonwatcher wrote:So...no fate and destinay stuff like that we just make our life how it is??

Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
I don't think so. Fate's always stuck me as both a downer philosophy and an excuse sort of one. "Oh, life sucks, so it must be fate that my life sucks. I'm just going to sit here and b**** and moan about fate being a b**** rather than do anything." Yeah, screw that - take control, kick a**, make your life as good as you can and tell Fate to go to hell.Moonwatcher wrote:So...no fate and destinay stuff like that we just make our life how it is??

Re: What is the meaning of Life and the purpose of Life
Called it!
Anyway, I guess I'll say here what I did there.
From a biological standpoint, the purpose of life (or rather, living) is to eat, sleep, find shelter, and propagate (that's 'get lucky' for those of you who go out on Friday nights). In nature, it is easily observable that all existing life forms move towards this set of goals. True, it's a bit less cut-and-defined for micro-organisms and plants, but you get the point.
For humans, however, it's a bit more sticky. We have learned, over the years, to take our instincts in stride; we no longer obey their every whim and word. We can do what we want. This, of course, brings up the question of exactly what we want to do.
I like to think of it this way: Everything you do in your life, every decision you make, is influenced by your thoughts, emotions, morals, etc. Provided that these don't change very much during the course of your life (read: epiphany or mid-life crisis), the overall meaning of your life can be interpreted as the underlying logic and motivation behind these individual decisions. Depending on how complex of a person you are, you may or may not know what that motivation is. I'd like to think that I try to know as much as I possibly can, so for me, the meaning of life is knowledge. For other people, it might be something different.
For Figarou, it might be duckies.
