What's the record? We could try for it this weekend, and maybe do a chat during A-Kon. We've got a chat room around here somewhere that we hardly use.
Taking a Gestalt approach, since it's the "in" thing...

Well, there aren't really THAT many of us active. We have a large database of dead members.

I was *just* thinking that.

We really need to gather together in the chatroom. Several people are on every evening at least, we have enough people to have a regularly active chatroom -- if everyone went to the chatroom everytime they came to check on The Pack -- just no one seems to be willing to get in on it.

In fact, next time I see a lot of people on, I'm going to sit in the chatroom and message everyone to join me.

That # is not official.

For some strange reason.....the forum counted the "google bot guests" a few times. There was not, at any given time, 51 pack members on the forum. I think the highest was 24.

Right now...there is 192 google bot guests online.

So, people do go in it, and without me?

Seriously, we need to get the chat going.

I almost always seem to miss people when they're in chat. I think I've met live people once in the last month - Sabre dropped in just as I was about to leave the other night.

It might be an idea to put a link to the chat program somewhere in the forum pages though... it's a pain in the proverbial having to go to the main page, wait for it to load then going in to the chat program - a couple of times it was easier to manually type the link into the top of the browser.

Well consider in the first place the currently set "record" is due to spambots and/or browsers ignoring cookies which kick up a bunch of fake sessions which looks all like a bunch of users. Otherwise phpBB3 compensates for bots like Google that don't keep cookies (just by noticing their 'user agent' which implies what crawler they are). Otherwise I suppose it would be reasonable to reset the max number of people that have been online simultaneously since the 'record' is actually quite false.

I'm guessing it's caused by someone googling something that causes the Pack to pop up on the list of results. The bot comes here, looks around, and then reports its findings. Or something, I could be completely wrong.

Google-bot (or other bots) that show up as guests are spiders crawling the site, sent from various search engines, etc. They have the permissions of guests, but otherwise make everything that's publicly viewable, searchable.
