Urg, I'm sorry to revive a dead topic (You don't know how much I hate this... unless you';ve been on any other forums I've been on) but I thought it was relevant.

Anywho, I found a good page with wolf social behavior and signs, which may be able to help with displaying emotions, espeacially with the tail

For movements of the tail, this is where CG comes into play.

My question about talking is this... why would they want to? I mean in werewolf form.. Why would they want to communiate like a human.. when they can have their own language that normal humans can't understand.... and why would a werewolf want to 'talk' to a human anyway.. if it were another werewolf in human form, tthen they could understand them anyway. Seems like even if they 'could' have a rudimentary speech.. it would be a strain on their throats.

teehee! :o I think werewolves would speak their own language unless they were talking to a rookie that was unsure of himself and maybe clung to his human side. Surely speaking 'werewolf' would help bring a level of secretcy and they wouldn't want to be found out and very likely slaughtered.

If you've ever seen the animated film 'Spirit: Stallion of the Cimearon' (Or something like that) the horse doesn't talk but a lot of emotion could be displayed with posture, noises and rolled eyes :D

Well, barking, growling, yipes, and woofs would be fine by me.

I'll be suprized to see a werewolf barking to another werewolf and seeing subtitles underneth.

He'll notice the subtitles, point to it, and bark..."Did I just say that?"

Yeah, no roaring :)
And I also think that real wolf noises should be used the most. Whines, snarls, barks, howls, yips ect. Posture is just as important if not more so than vocals. I also think that a newbie in werewolf form would still try to communicate as a human. Both with posture and trying to speak. They would fail miserably of course :D :shift:

That could make an instresting scene! Trying to get stuff across and the older werewolf cocking his ears like, 'Huh? Ey? Eh?' :?

What would werewolf language sound like?

Post by Redfeather the Defender »

Howls all! Redfeather here.
Today an interesting thought came to mind. :?

What would werewolf language sound like? If they do talk, english or otherwise, what would their voices sound like, a mixture between a voice and a wolf's growl? let me hear your thoughts on this.
OR I EAT YOU *giggles* Just kidd'n

Would a werewolf be able to talk if he /she wanted to? If so how would it sound?

I've got the idea that a werewolf could talk , be it with some difficulty in a low growling tone Heres a link to something i found a while ago, though don't click the link if you don't have a DSL connection. Its a 4mb download !

Remember, a werewolf is no more a wolf that it is a human. Trying to speak would be clumsy, but should be possible to a degree.

As for why would a werewolf want to speak? You need some way to reassure Red Riding Hood when she comments on how big your nose is!

I'm not a big fan of talking werewolves my self. Personally I think they should be able to talk up to a certain "stage" of transforming but afterwards their vocal cords should change significantly enough to prohibit any kind of human recognizable speech of anykind.

I don't know that it would be THAT prohibitive; as pointed out, some mundane doggies have been trained to do a fair impression of human speech.

Perhaps adept werewolves can control how far into their transformations they go, so that they can effectively speak if needed without reverting to full human.

As I've suggested before, werewolves are likely to communicate via a veriety of different means..... such as simplistic words, body language, hand motion, and how they hold themselves.

Kinda an.... impromptu language.

Or if details really important, they can grab one of those cheap walkie talkies and tap on em to create Morris Code.
