Not really...

...however...there is alot of that out there, and it is not usually well accepted in most repectable websites, so when you do find it, it is usually clumped together with a whole lot more of the same wherever it is allowed, usually outnumbering the clean stuff on those sites. This creates an illusion of the dirty stuff being more common.

Truthfully though, the amount of clean, freindly and tasteful stuff far outweighs the dirty since it can be found just about anywhere and is readily accesable to anyone who chooses to search the web randomly.

The reason that web searches for the word "Furry" will come up with so much more of the x-rated stuff, vs. the clean stuff (I suspect) is because the dirty stuff is exclusively of interest to a sub-set of Furries, whereas the clean stuff is of much broader appeal and so is not usually catogorized under just the word "Furry" specifically.

...in other words, dirty art and story archives of Furry media are far more likely to have the word "furry" in their title or site description than the more tasteful ones, whose names and spectrum of media (including, but not exclusive to anthropomorhic works), are often far more varied and creative.

...does that make sense?

No...it depends on the individual artist. Many are G and sometimes PG-rated. It tends to be one or the other, the art is G-rated or it's XXX.

Heh...polarities...

I suppose most were-art would be hovering around hard PG-13/R, with the very occasional foray into violence-X.

Many yes.

You know, in most sites, there is a WARNING in case you come across some hardcore stuff, you know. If you don't want to see that, look at the G rated stuff. I have never seen violence as G. If you want to see werewolf violence in a G gallery, you might have to settle for this:

Image

Well anyway, I joined that furry place and asked them and alot feel that a werewolf can be called a furry. They claim a furry is an animal with human similarities so they think a werewolf is a furry.

Flails!!!

OMG don't bring that up again!.

That caused such a HUGE fight online between the different groups that it really set a rift deep between then that exists to day. Sheesh.

The Fur Fandom is a group of peopl einto Anthromophric- animals. Anthro=human, morph=havign the quality of.

Furry isn'[ tjust about anthros..., that saying that they are about people. o.O silly.

I found teh Therian Community before the Furry fandom. I also know of the history of the online Therina community, and its was Spawned by a -fan- group of werewolf/werebeast lovers. People who, like us, enjoy the wild side of things.

So, techincally they sprung from teh fandom. but the history and culture of therianthropy can be traced back much further if one dares to look. :)

The Fandom is a VERY borad, over-arching, blanket-statement-style, group of people who have some intrest in things animalistic. There are, as mentioned, several catagories and cliques within it. Scalies too. ;)

As a tendancy, furries tend to favor cute, whereas werewolf fans tend to favor blood and gore. So, if it's R-rated, with furries it's sex, and werewolf fans it's violence.

Again, general trends. There are exceptions. (My own first novel has more text-length devoted to sexuality than blood and gore. It just worked out that way with what I wanted to do. The second one, however, gets more violent, even though it has a bigger mix of different things that could be called furry.)

Ever heard of Vore? ( Like dragons characters eating other characters. Or Mega Furs eating smaller furs whole, like candy? )

TF fandoms? ( Transformation )

Many of the Mthics of the Fur Fnadom, like Dragons tend to favor violence.

OH and don't forget the SM ( Sado Masochism ) of the fandom as well.

When I got into the fandom I wanted to understand it on all levels. So I dug, and Dug and dug and dug and dug.

I'm one Baby fur's "Auntie". - Its not as disturbing as some make it out to be. *rolls eyes and chuckles*

Oh and don't forgte the "Dark Furs" / "Goth Furs" and all teh aspect s of Goth subculture added into teh furry fandom.

Like I said before. The Fur fandom spans HUGE tracts of culture and subculture.

the "Cute and cartoon" you speak of, are juts another clique. Some are outright ourraged and "fight" against "all that is dark and evil" that goes on "behind the scenes".

*rolls eyes and chuckles again* Silly Furs. :)

It literally is a HUGE blanketing fandom, and inter links into a number of -other- fandoms. There are Trekkie furs. Star Furs. Anime Cat girl Furs.

I wanted to do the same with Therianthropy. I just got confused. I'm the same way with furries. There is to many meanings out there. Its like looking up the word "run" in the dictionary.

I rather be a werewolf fan and thats that. If someone asks why I like werewolves, its because I do. No special reason. Its one of my favorite fictional creatures. Thats it.

The Therian sub-"culture" ( for a severe lack of PC terminology ), is just as complex and as varied as the fur fandom. The online-existence of Therianthropy can be traced back to the early days of public internet access, and the newsgroups. First it started out as a "fandom" ( Much like this is technically a fandom for mostly werewolvves - in particular a fan-following for Freeborn ( lots of "F's" wow )). Some even claim it started with the fur fandom, and grew out from there.

There are "Lifestylers". Some could techincally be pidgeonholed as "Therinas lost in the fandom". Others are deeply spiritual people who have a deeper connection to their animal idealolgoy. They enjoy the fandom as a way to express this in a place where they can feel safe doing so. Others amoung the Lifestylers..., like a portion of the fandom.., are "sickos". They take wanting to be the animal to the extreme. ( I put sickos in quotes, because some people won't see them as such, where others would be totally and horridly appaled by some of the things they do. )

This is often teh section of the fandom that crosses over to Therianthropy's own ( in many ways, and yes even in teh sicko ways ).

This is why its so often HARD to discern where the fine line comes from. Goldenwolfen's image *points above* was the center of a severly retarded ( no offesne to those mentally disabled ) online arguement. I entered into teh main-stay of teh Therian culture around the time this was just finializing and beginning to smolder out.

The going communties ( yes plural ) consensus is.., there is a connection, but Therians as a whole Generally take their animal aspects more seriously and more spiritually then furs ( as a General fandom ). End. Of. Story.

There is no "form" or difference in wether its more feral looking or cartoony looking, when it comes to teh art of either. There is no "physical image" of what makes one or the other something else. I can point to you any number of FURRIES who draw werewolf art, who craft feral beats-men sculptures.

Artistically - Its what the artist claims it to be. if an artist says "its furry", then its furry.

If the artist says its "Feral, or werewolfy" then its werewolfy.

If the artist says its "High Fantays" then its high fantasy.

if the artist says, screw you all I'm going home.. they have that right too. ;) heh.

*rubs nose*

There is no way to try and catagorize it without realizing that it has far too many interconnecting points.

I've read all teh old arguements, all the old opinions, all the old realizations.., and in some places teh smoking debate of it all stilll smolders, waiting for thar one tiny spark.

^.^

That's why I say .., Let's not go there. Thsi is a werewolf forum..., lets keep the genralizations out. If someone wants to call you a furry, just smile, shake you head 'no' in a knowing way.. and walk away. If others want to make a biased an duneducated comment that could lead to an outright, stupid, arugement.. Its better to just not add fuel to the fire. ;)

Educate them if you think you can, but don't bash your heads into a wall. *chuckles* We need you HERE! *clings*
