Whoever gave me my werehost account

Post by Scott Gardener »

I know one of you gave me a werehost.org account, but I lost the notes on who. And, for some reason it's no longer recognizing my password. And, my site seems to be down, too.

http://scottgardener.werehost.org/

I accessed it only fifteen days ago without incident.

Any reply would be appreciated.

Well, I have no idea who gave you your account, but that place looks downright amazing.

That place looks very cool! Let us know if you can get it working again. By the way, do you know who did the artwork on the front page?

Oh. Now I understand. Well, my university gives me hosting for files and for my website for free, so I'm good. :D

Scott, a word of advice, or perhaps just the mullings of wild mind.

There are a variety of solutions that will actually allow you to host your material redundantly. I think this is actually a good idea.

Whether a host is having problems, or has gone under or failed to pay its domain fees, having duplicate copies of your material can be rather convenient.

Two places that come to mind off the bat, that would work are:

http://www.furtopia.org/
They provide free webspace and can enlarge it when and as needed. I think, right out of the gate they gave me either 200 or 250 Megs of space, with a note to contact them should I need more.

The newest FREE service from Google:
Google Page Creator
They are bit backed up due to heavy demand, but now and then free site space becomes available. They provide 100Megs of web space and it is easy to work with. I am sure, once they get a better handle on demand, site space should become easy to get.

I actually didn't know about that google thing. Good find. Knowing google it should be available properly within a few weeks.

When I log in normally to my Google page, it is not obvious whether new spaces are available, but when I come in from the wrong direction and it thinks I am someone new, it is quite clear whether new sites are available.

I shall keep an eye out.

Thanks for the pointers. I liked my werehost site, all four months of it. I didn't even get a chance, however, to get beyond the "coming soon" stage before this happened. Oh well.

I'll give Furtopia a look, after I'm done with Nanoedmo. Until then, I've got a book to edit, and that project takes priority, at least outside of some new work opportunities that have come up.
