Ok, but remember, you asked...

It's a Japanese word meaning "catcher". However, it tends to be used in anime fandom to refer to the, uh, submissive one, in a homosexual relationship.

Now perhaps you undersatand why I can't read that without giggling?

Being A Good Predator

As the alpha predator species on the planet, we humans love our meat. We love it ground, plain, in wine sauce, fried, broiled, baked, chicken fried, blackened, rare, raw, seared, sliced, put into sausage, cut into chops, speared, made into soup, violated with a beer can, barbequed, smoked, slated, dehydrated, gigged, rubbed, tenderized, stewed, buried in a pit, broiled; and many other ways too numerous to mention here. There are as many ways to prepare and cook meat as there are stars in the nighttime sky, and we love them all.

On the other hand, we absolutely hate being told by a tiny minority of the population that eating meat is bad, that it is perpetuating murder by proxy, that the human body was not "engineered" to process meat correctly, that eating meat and other foods from animals is stealing, and other complaints in an endless list. WE ARE PREDITORS! WE ARE OMNIVORS! HUMANS WILL, AND HAVE, EATEN ANYTHING THAT CAN'T CRAWL AWAY FAST ENOUGH! Anthropological evidence indicates that meat has been a part of the human diet for as long as we have been on the planet. It's a part of our natural existense, yet we have people telling us that it should not be. Every other animal on the planet has an accepted diet, and we wouldn't try to change what that diet is. (You can't feed a lion tofu, and you can't feed a cow steak.) But some of us would not afford the rest of us to have something that is a part of OUR natural diet.

So the lines are drawn, between those who believe that mankind has no more rights than any other animal walking the planet, and those who believe that the planet is ours by right of superiority, to do with as we wish. One side looks at the world through the eyes of the animals that we kill (the prey), and the other looks at it through the eyes of the meat that we enjoy (the predators). These are vastly different and opposed ways of thinking, and they create oppositions on a level best reserved for addressing at another time.

But is eating meat the be all and end all of being a predator? I personally don't think so. It's not just about the meat on our plates. We aren't just the alpha predator species on the planet, we are also one of the most numerous ones as well. The human population is currently more than six billion strong. Population growth is slowing, but it is still growth. Optimistic estimates place population parity (the point at which the population stabalizes) at nine billion people. That's a 50% increase over what we have now.

If we are to support nine billion people, then we will need to put our brains to the best uses possible. Nine billion preditors will require a LOT of meat. It will need to be clean meat. It will need to be provided in a way that is efficient while being as quick and painless a kill as possible. And we will need to keep a mind toward making sure that we, as omnivors, also get the vegetable nutrition that we need, as well. With nine billion on the planet, we will not have much room for error. Every effort that we can put our minds to right now to improve nutrition and find new ways to have our meat while preserving the planet will pay big rewards in the future.

And what of our fellow predators? Large predators require large amounts of open land to properly hunt. That land is becoming scarce. We simply are using it to live. Not suprisingly, we are seeing a lot of large predators on the endangered species list. Because of this MEATA has decided to donate a percentage of our merchandise sales to charities that help preserve animal habitats, or that are trying to save the predator species. We are currently looking for one or more charities to support. If you are a representative of a charity that matches this goal, then please email charity@meataonline.com. All candidates need to be registered as non-profit.

As predators, we don't have to be apologetic or guilty for eating meat, and we don't have to bow down before those who believe that we should be. But as responsible predators, there is always room for stewardship of the world that we dominate. We encourage you to join us in that endeavour.

Happy Hunting,

The Alpha Male

White Paw, what's with the long essay about being a carnivore? Since it's coming from you I could make plenty of jokes about "meat", but for the sake of the children I won't.

 Me and my gutter mind...I've been hanging around the fangirls too long...

And by the way, your new title is too amusing. *tacklepounces White Paw, messes up his fur, and runs off laughing*

Well Im a vegetarian... :D and proud to be, but I don't really like preaching much, but here's my two cents: (A friendly two cents, you KNOW I hate arguing and debates, so Ill say my bit and not comment again, so there's no need to actually debate, since I'm lazy anyway and can't be stuffed).

I dont disagree with hunting naturally, if we were able (That is when it is similar to a lion killing a gazelle, and when it is sustainable). Unfortunately, there isn't any land left. It can't support hunter gatherers anymore. Farming animals is cruel (Lions don't and cannot farm. Farming also destroys too much habitat, including all the animals and plants we love).

It's not a badly written essay, it's obviously very one sided and bias, just as my opinions are (Though I'm trying to look at both sides...and I never leave the table when people are eating meat as that's plain rude. I stick to my side of the fence, and they stick to theirs, in a figure of speech that I randomly just made up!)

I and many other vegetarians have also shown that we are thriving on a vegetarian diet. :D (Thank the gods, cause I love food. And booze too :P)
As predators, we don't have to be apologetic or guilty for eating meat, and we don't have to bow down before those who believe that we should be.
I am not asking anybody to bow down to my way of thinking. Many vegetarians would rather be left to their own devices. Some, I agree, however, are extremely rude. (For example, this girl I went to highschool with. Disgusting attitude on her. I remember at my 16th, I still ate meat then...she howled and complained and said 'ewwww!!!' at what my mother had cooked. I never, ever, forgave her, even when I became a vegetarian. Manners like that shame the rest of us.)

Anyway it's nice that at least they are trying to come up with ways to preserve the environment, even while I disagree with most of that essay, it's nice to know there are other people doing things too. Gives me a bit of hope for this failing planet.

I'm actually doing an ecological footprint thing for Uni. It's very interesting! Mine is quite low compared to the averages luckily. Im trying to type it up and it's just weird that an environmental related post is on this board!

Don't worry Set, I have a pretty feral mind too, although I didn't pick that joke up at all!! I get it now but I didn't pick it up. Good that White Paw is proud, that's the way to be, be yourself and proud.
