hmmmm...I wonder if someone is claiming my work as thiers. All I did was a few animated avatars. Makes me wonder.
But yes, its wrong to steal art. Thats something I never do.

A virtual gallery was robbed earlier this week...

With my own artwork I'm a bit more liberal; I just want acknowledgment, and the insurance that no one else seizes from me the right to my own work--that is, that no one steals it and then claims that I stole it from them. That's an old paranoia I had, dating back to when I was a kid. Not that it's ever once even happened to me.
Still, my artwork is done for the sake of doing so, and isn't my livelihood. I certainly would not want to pirate artwork any more than I would music or video. Professional artists like Goldenwolf and Kyoht should get paid for a living.
And, I also acknowledge that just because I follow an "open source" philosophy with my own works doesn't mean that I have any right to expect the same of anyone else.

See that's just it right there. You hit it on the nose.
"I just want acknowledgement..,"
When people steal artwork, they often don't place anysort of acknowledge on the art pieces. Or they will crop the siggy, which is its own acknowledgement. Doing that is not only illegeal but rude too.
When ever I use code from somewhere else, cause I'm too lazy to code it or I just don't know what I need to do.., and I find something.., I will leave the "siggy" in the code. The short quip about where the code comes from, or the url from whence it came.
Its the "Do unto others" but I learned a long time ago. I don't crop it because I don't want someone doing it to me or mine.
Then there are those who do it malicsiously, claiming it as their own works. THAT is outright wrong and horrid. It beyound rude.
Now beyound those bits above, then it comes down to how the individual artists feels about their work. Some are uber protective, where others are a bit more liberal.
I just try to keep thinsg on the up and up as much as possible.
*points to her siggy wolf* That's not my art. Its my edit of something that has been made 'public domain'.., but its not mine. Anyone who asks as such I tell them so. I don't link to the originating artit because it was specifically asked. In any case, its NOT mine.

Its just a nice edit of something I foudn to "Look like" me. ;)

If anyone's wondering:
From Goldenwolf's
Free Stuff page.
I like the coloring job on the one in Trinity's sig much better, though. And the added front leg is a good touch.

The white spots on the border of the wolf in Trinity's signature.
The numbers in parenthesis (Like 23.87%) show the progression of something I'm copying from one place to another.

There's another white spot under the wolf's belly, right behind the front legs.

Maybe you should put your wolf on a higher protein deit or try to groom him to get rid of that dandruff. This also could be a signal of ill health or allergies, so make sure to run your wolfie to the vet. Or atleast thats what you should do for a cat.
If someone were to use my art I'd feel a little happy, they did like it enough to use, but I would want them to know and aknowledge me and give a link to my devart account.

Hm. I though that was supposed to be there, but it looks better without.
