I saw it back when it first aired here some time in the early `eighties.ravaged_warrior wrote:You've seen it? Is it better than the terrible movie? Is there anywhere where I can see it online?Midnight wrote:The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy
I enjoyed it, but then I also quite enjoyed the film so I don't know whether you'd like it seeing as you thought the film was terrible.
It's out on DVD, just have a hunt around for it.

Actually... I'll admit that I don't know if the whole film was terrible. I hated what I saw of it, I couldn't get the DVD to work, and decided that I was hating it too much to be bothered with it. My problem was that they took the same jokes from the book, but somehow made them unfunny to me.

The movie had it's moments...but really, I think the opening musical number was the highlight of that version.
The Old BBC television version did it all better I think. I agree with ravaged_warrior...even though they used the same jokes...word for word in many cases, (taken from the BBC show, which were taken from the Book which was actually compiled from scripts from the original Radio Show), somehow they managed to make them less funny.
Even if you did not like the film, I highly recommend seeing the BBC series version, if only to see all the good stuff they left out of the film. They really nailed the comedy in the old version...classic stuff.

Re: Favorite TV Shows
This sucks. Two years and I've only got two shows to ad to the list.Terastas wrote:Those two, as well as:Silverclaw wrote:What are some of your favorite tv shows? Past or present.
Mine...
Wolf's Rain
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Jack
Father of the Pride (R.I.P.)
Brimstone (R.I.P.)
Millennium (R.I.P.)
Angry Beavers (R.I.P.)
This sucks -- half of my list has been canned already.

Hmmm... sounds like I'll have to watch it, if I ever find the damned thing. One thing I've noticed recently is that I severely dislike how Marvin looks in pictures from the miniseries. Which is perfect, honestly, because the book describes him as looking as if he wasn't put together right. The newer Marvin looks too much like he was meant to look cute, which is a bit bothersome for a depressed robot to look like.

Yeah...the original Marvin was an ugly looking robot...and he was more memorable, and believably depressed like that. If you watch the film version carefully, the original Marvin robot makes a cameo appearance standing in the waiting line in one scene.ravaged_warrior wrote:Hmmm... sounds like I'll have to watch it, if I ever find the damned thing. I don't know why the TV Mini-Series version is so hard to find...but it is. I still only have the VHS version of it.

Yes, I heard about that. I always find it interesting when past variations of an adaptation are referenced in newer versions.Vuldari wrote:If you watch the film version carefully, the original Marvin robot makes a cameo appearance standing in the waiting line in one scene.
