It isn't dead, just look at how many replies this thread has gotten. I only joined because there is still activity in here and I want to help ^-^

It's not dead or even on life support. It's just slower traffic, because our raisons d'etre haven't changed much.

(Raison d'etre isn't Na'vi, by the way, it's from French, meaning "reason to be." Pop quiz: What Queensryche song has that phrase in it? It's in Operation: Mindcrime...)

And I hope that questing wasn't directed to me because I've never heard of Queensryche...

I also hate French, but then again the French hate every language thats not French so I'm still not as bad as that.

The only things I really appreciate the French for are their food and their help in science.

I was posting on a language-forum for quite a while, and while everybody wrote in English to give everyone the chance to understand whats going on, the French people would only write in French and the only contribution they made to topics (after running it through Google Translate) was "oh this language is such a ripoff of French, they don't have any culture of their own at all". Maybe these guys were trolling, but it wasn't helping the forum's dislike for the French at all. Ofcourse there are plenty of good people living in France, but you get my point.

The French you ran into were probably Parisians, by the sound of it. Paris does not equal the rest of France.
