Oh, well. See you at A-Kon!
I would've done the same thing if I knew about Cagecon a lot sooner. :(

Home of the Cowboys... and Reunion Tower. (The big tall and famous round revolving restraunt thingie you always see in the Dallas skyline.)

Gosh I miss living in Texas. I never thought I'd find a more windy winter anywhere. DAMN! I moved to a place where it exists.
:(

So... how far are yall going to travel to get to A-Kon? I've got a 700 mile drive for myself.

I live there :D (in Dallas that is)

Now we're just doing generic intros? Welcome to a con?

For me it's a four hour drive. If I weren't working Friday and Sunday, I'd be at CageCon this weekend. As it is, I'll have to wait until A-Kon to go Pack-sighting. (Ahh... the gray-eared duck tosser, the red-headed scripter, and let's not forget the collapsing sword-stabber, an interesting species...)

Well, sort of an announcement, but the plans at the moment, are for me to be at A-Kon, and bring some prosthetics, hands, feet, some appliances. Mainly testing stuff, but certainly something to see and touch.

Get a room!

I've booked a room, Thursday through Sunday even. I'll almost certainly end up sharing it with my sister and her husband, who happens to be part of their security staff. Availability of additional floorspace will be coming shortly, depending on the plans of some close friends who might or might not be going.

If you're going, not on the guest list like the Brownriggs, and aren't named Alicia or Michael, be sure to get a room as soon as you can, as they sell out at least several months before the convention. Be sure also to show up early; I haven't heard of any overbooking problems, but hotels sometimes overbook, assuming that not everyone shows up. At A-Kon, a LOT of people show up.

Should I buy a ticket before hand or just show up and get one there?

before hand...if you want to save a few bucks.

If you buy tickets in advance, you'll also have a shorter wait, unless you're showing up Thursday, the day before the con officially begins. I've generally come on Fridays, and had no wait at all, while my friends who didn't pre-reg had to wait over two hours, with literally hundreds before them.

I haven't seen the Thursday lines--this will be the first year I show up that early--but, I hear that it's reversed--the pre-reg wait is longer, because the convention die-hards often arrive then. But, I'm not sure if weekend passes are available on Thursday for those who didn't prereg.

My recommendation is to go ahead and pre-reg, not only to save a buck, but also to save two or three hours of standing in line.

are y'all going to the banquet?

I wasn't planning to, as it's usually at the same time as an annual social event with my sister and her friends. I've been tempted, however, elitist as I am, given all the other social opportunities through the weekend.
