Well, I figured that if they've never posted and never visited they're just a waste of sapce and are taking up names others might want to use.

Sure, it's easy to figure out
after the've posted, but there have been several spam bots that have waited
months between signing up and posting.

Does this forum have an option to turn on the little "Enter this number" picture thing? That won't stop all the spam bots, but it does cut down on the number if it's required to register.
Won't help with the ones that already have accounts though.

The porno spam usualy has a porn site that is blatantly obvious.
