Maybe werewolves don't revert to more feral mentalities, but instead, they flip out.

Try to imagine what someone would think if he didn't even believe in werewolves, and suddenly he ended up becomming one. I think if you could listen to the voices in his head, it would sound something like: "Oh-my-God-oh-my-god-what-the-****-is-happening-this-can't-be-happening-what-do-I-do-what-do-I-do?!!" What I'm thinking is that, under those kinds of conditions, an average joe would have a panic attack and wouldn't behave all that rationally. A veteran werewolf, however, will have adapted to suddenly turning into a werewolf every now and then, so he'll be able to keep his cool under that kind of pressure. That's not to say he couldn't cave in to his instincts and/or emotions under different circumstances.

It's like I said in my previous post; their just human, so their just as prone to irrational behavior as we are.

Of course, you want what works best in the movie. If you want people to identify with these ceatures, you don't want them turning into raving beasts.

If the theory is that werewolves lose their memory because they turn into animals who do not have rational thought, that idea has been blown out of the water by comparative psychologists for 20 years. Animals have rational thought. It might be different from human thought in ways but it is intelligent and it is rational.

If the idea is that trauma knocks their memory out, then maybe older Werewolves would remember better.

Historically, werewolves remember just find.Check out the record of the trial of Jacob Theiss (for one, in Carlos Ginzberg's The Night Battles). He could recount in reasonable detail whathe did on his crusades against the evil sorcerors in northern Europe. On the otherhand, weres evidently could not remember what they did during a berserker rage.
