Okay for my two cents.
Im not a furry, and never heard of the term until recently. But why are they poor?
Well I've always been a fantasy fan, horror fan, anything like that with creatures, and also of medieval stuff. Me and my friend when we were kids used to play with swords and try and make costumes...our characters had tails or wings and shape shifted, the like, or we played 'Redwall' which people classify as 'furry' books (But I doubt the author has -ever- heard of 'furry'. Depends how you look at it! )
So I've always liked looking for costume stuff (Including dumb hats and tinsel and feathers and being silly despite my age). Recently I wanted to make a pair of wings (Just to have a scary photo taken with my band someday, just as a silly joke. Im not a gothic by any standards haha, though a gothic would like my idea). It was to be a giant pair of black wings, and some other stuff, and my guitar.
How much does it cost per one packet of feathers which will cover perhaps several cm of the wing, due to layering? $15 AU or something ridiculous! I'm collecting feathers at the moment.
Now don't get me started on fake fur. I wanted to make a DragonballZ monkey tail as a joke, and a proper wolf tail for Halloween. I spent a lot of money on fake fur. I got cheaper stuff (Looks cool still). For a meter of nice fake sable fur, $60. (Au). How about the piping stuff going in the tail? $15. I sew it myself, though I can't sew well. (Thus, in the end I made the wolf tail look like a beaver tail so Im gonna stick to the rosette-less snow leopard like tail I have..it's realistic, but more cat-like).
Imagine being a furry and wanting to make an entire full body costume. And imagine, if you're not a kid that is, having to pay for the food bill and all that, and finding the time and money to make this costume on the side.
Anyhow...just my ... maybe $50 worth of writing

Tinsel rocks! It's so shiny!
I love Christmas, because we get a lot of people up our street, as it's very decorated more than anywhere else where I live. We get icecream vans, tour buses etc. I dress up with reindeer ears, tinsel, a long cat like tail I have (Very realistic) and my dog dresses up too. (Not cruelly).
And tinsel is just so...colourful...
I'm not a drug addict just a child at heart

I'm poor because I'm a young nameless artist, and spend most of my money on the computer animation hardware/software for my small freelancer buisness. Yep. Still dirt poor, but only a minor furry fan. I like the art, but not so much the culture behind it.
Lurking softly, reading your posts, loving your ideas...

We all know not all werewolf fans are furries. And not all furries are werewolf fans.
I could be mistaken as a furry because of my character. I sometimes act like my character in real life. (Tossing duckies at people.)
We all know we could have wolf hybrids, correct? How about a furry hybrid? I think thats where I would fall under. A cross between a werewolf fan and a furry.
But instead of being called a hybrid furry, I rather be called a floofy.
I know.....its silly.

*nods* Contrary to popular belief, most furries are not fat, hairy and in their 40s. It just sometimes seems that way because the older furs are the ones more likely to be able to afford a trip to AC. Most furries are at that magical teenage / young adult age where you either have too little in the bank or too much on your plate (the former in my case).PariahPoet wrote:Because most of us are 25 and younger. The thought slipped my mind. I had other things to worry about. Like wondering when that repair man was going to show up.Lupin wrote:Speaking of which, there was a distinct lack of duckie tossing on your part yesterday.Figarou wrote:I could be mistaken as a furry because of my character.
