(Day 1 2/10)

The guard loses interest in your bloody and beaten condition. "I need an ale. Any of you have some ale?" Pausing slightly, he lets his guard down and moves to the alley under your watch. He enters into the alley, and all there is to be heard is one expletive after another. He emerges from the alley after a moment.

"How the undertakers managed to go into the alley just across the street where some bum was halfway eaten and miss all of that, the world may never know. Amaka's blessings on those who aren't with us anymore." A look of disgust crosses his face, and he ducks into the other alley (which is a little closer) and doubles over. Sounds of wet smacking the pavement tell you that his lunch (along with any ale he had with it) has gone to waste.

He speaks up loudly between splashes, "Gaaah... *splash* You smell like, like *hurk* *splash* blood and bloody guts!" He lets out some more lunch followed by some more expletives. He pauses for a moment, wiping his face on part of his robe (he didn't get much on himself, most of it went to the ground). "After you're done, since you three survived whatever the hell happened in that alley, go find the Captain of the guards about work. Bathing is that way." He indicates the Slums gate, which is more like a decorated hole in the wall about a cart wide, with farmland and sparse trees on the far side.

"Sorry about making you lose your lunch mister.." Akijiu muttered before begining to walk off towards the gate. He stopped and motioned for the other two to follow him.

Ashin follows along quickly, glad that the guard wasn't one of the more distrustful sort, and looking forward to bathing.

Shawna, slightly confused as to why the guard was so disturbed, shrugged and followed thr others, thinking only about getting clean.

As you pass through the gate, you see the road to Samalad stretching out before you. Not so much as a road than it is a dirt path where hooves and wheels have beaten the grass and underbrush away. Farmland sprawls out along the road.

An old, tootheless bum whittling wood with his dagger ignores all of you equally. How do you beg to someone who seems to be doing worse than you are?

Turning left, smells of the wild perk your noses up. The smells of the city well be further gone with the more distance you place between you and it. The river leaves the city in a shallow valley about half a mile ahead of you.

Birds twitter from trees and fly from one grove to the next if you come to near. When you reach the river, you find the water to not quite clear, but it's not so dirty that you really have anything to worry about.

he then proceeded in the direction of the river. Though it was dirty in the part of the city, getting clean and out of bloodstained clothing came before bathing in cleaner water. Reaching the river, Akijiu removed his ruined clothing and jumped into the river.

Akijiu was first perplexed by Shawna's leaving, then of course, he realized he had stripped nude in front of a female, and jumped in the water. He made a mental note to avoid doing so in the future. Akiujiu washed himself as throughly as possible in river, then tried to wash his clothing as best he could before dressing in it.

Noting Akijiu and following suit, Ashin strips down and wades into the water, first scrubbing down his clothes, taking care not to damage them in the process, and then laying them out to dry in a sunny place. Only after this is done does he take the time to clean himself thoroughly, taking his time whilst his clothes dry out.

Upon noting that they are mostly dry, he pulls himself out of the river and gets dressed.

Ahhh, now that makes me feel all kinds of better.

Hmm. I would feel even better if I had some different clothes, though.

Shawna moved into the clearing and greeted the men with a nod.

"So, do ya'll want to go find that Captain of the guard, maybe we'll get some new clothes or weapons out of it..and a little money wouldn't hurt either."

"Sounds like a plan, we need the money, i nor did any of the folks in that alley have cash, trust me, i checked," Akijiu said with a shrug. "Besides, i know nothing of this town, and you guys probablly don't either. A few jobs for him and we'll be paid, able to get what need and know the town."

Ashin feels really uncomfortable with the idea of meeting the Captain of the Guards, and just doesn't think the benefits could possibly outweigh the responsibilities and restrictions that come with working for someone.

“Un, uh. No way. Are you two forgetting that we were seen in that alley? With that demon corpse? And a bunch of dead bodies?

“Do you really think the Captain is going to believe, 'We don't remember anything at all,' and give us weapons and money?

“Hah!”

Shawna's eyes went wide and she cursed her stupidity under her breath "We could have walked right into a trap! That guard was smarter than I thought... What was I thinking!...something is really wrong with me to have forgotten so much."

"The guard believed it, besides, how the hell could they blame us, we were unarmed, how the hell could we possibly have killed anything?" Akijiu replied. "The wounds on that demon too, they were...breaks...claw marks...." he held up his hand. "These aint no claws...." he said, pointing to his fingernails. "It had no flesh too! Something clawed that thing up, and somehow got rid of all its flesh."

"Plus, that guard won't forget us, if we don't go to the Captain of the Guards, he'll come to us, with other guards, and be more suspicious. Unless you both plan on heading to the nearest town as we currently are, we ought to go to him. If we don't go, he'll find us in the city, and we'll have less credibility. See, innocent people don't run, criminials, however, will."

Ashin crosses his arms and peers intently at the ground, for a few moments, thinking; scuffing the ground occasionally with his foot.

He really doesn't want a job.

“See, innocent people don't run, criminals, however, will.”

Man, that grates on the nerves.

Cursing their distinctive appearances, he submits, not wanting to be separated from the group just yet: “Fine! Fine... But I'm gone the moment anything goes wrong!”

Shawna stared at the blood still under her fingernails,

no claws..huh?

She couldn't help but feel as though she were forgetting something very important.

"You make a good point Akijiu," She said, "but I'm with Ashin..I'm running if anything goes wrong."

Day 1 3/10

The walk back into town was a quiet one, as the birds swooped and chirped their merry little melodies. All the way up until one chirped and disappeared in a flurry of feathers. A chewing noise can be heard, absent of any growls, as the very large head of a huge iguana pokes it's head around some bushes on the far side of the tree. Three colored feathers hang out of it's mouth for a moment, and they disappear with as much alacrity as the bird that wore them.

He looks at you, decides your not a threat and scampers off to look for another meal. You note that this iguana is really big, twenty, perhaps twenty five feet in length. That, and it has six legs.

All too soon the smells of the city return, as you walk uphill to the lowest and basest part of town, the slums. The hole in the wall is still there. There is still a beggar sitting in the archway that is still ignoring you, and aside from the occaisional glaces, everyone else is also ignoring you. Traffic has returned to the streets, the occaisional cart or buggy being pulled by a horse or a donkey, as teamsters move goods across town.

The marketplace is open and noisy again. The prayers are obviously done. Most of the denizens are taking their time, going on about their lives. The guard you spoke with earlier is not there. Perhaps he went to get more lunch (and more ale). Passing the alley you stayed in, you notice that there is a group of dogs tearing into one of the bodies, and an undertaker has posted himself about a door away, on the street. Presumably, the dogs didn't want to give the meat up, and the undertaker is willing to wait, to take the leftovers to the mortuary.

Day 1 3/10

There are guards roaming alone every couple of blocks, and while most here are dressed, there is one man who stands out above all the rest. He's confronting the guards. A freak of nature, or whatnot, he just seemed big when you first saw him, but once he removed his cowl, booming "They did this to me! There are magicks in the city!" Ordering the guards around when your not their boss isn't a good idea. Showing your face where even from here, you can see scaly green stipes intermingling with skin going up the back of his neck. You can only imagine what had happened to his face. "You must kill them!"

The street begins to clear, as sounds of alarm and panic echo from person to person. The guards unsheathe their swords, as another three guards join the other two in the confrontation. Circling the freak, you can see their stances clearly. This greenish man has the stance of a veteran, and the guards, while outnumbering him, clearly don't have a clue on how to stand. They are more focused on what he looks like, than to actually fight. There are holes in their defenses you could drag a cart through.

If you do not clear the street soon, the only ones left on the street will be the freak, the guards, the undertaker who is not moving anywhere, and you.

Shawna didn't like the way that this was going, and she longed to have her two knives back. The sense of danger made her grin slightly as she walked forward and planted herself between the guards and the man. She knew that men tend to not strike out when there is a woman in the way, or so she hoped.

She turned and adressed the large scaled man. "What is going on?"

Ashin silently curses Shawna for needlessly butting in on a situation that was none of their business, and quite possibly ruining an excellent chance to get their hands on some decent weapons.

Sighing to himself, he just steps to one side of the street and watches as the situation unfolds, arms crossed.

Akijiu kept back with Ashin, staying well out of the way. If they guards died, their armor and weapons could be taken, there was more than enough for all three of them, the excess could be stashed to be sold somewhere else.

"Hope she'll be okay..." he muttered.

“Yeah...” Ashin agrees.

Just what is she trying to accomplish, acting like that? Hmph.

He looks around at the now-empty street.

All the smart ones left.

Shawna stands betwixt the guards and this circus freak. The nonchalant way that she just stands there commands authority, though the guard closest to her refuses to be trod upon. "What might you want, little miss? Have you come to protect this big freak from slaughter?"

From behind her, a deep, calm voice echoes down the street. "Come now, Godien, that is hardly what she meant to do." He chuckles quietly to himself. "She means to protect all of you from me. Because unlike all of you, I've been touched by magicks."

Leaning forward, he whispers to Shawna, and speaks softly to the guards. The guards stance has changed from not knowing what they are doing to a more shaken and disturbed stance.

Shawna is still just there in the middle of it. Why is she just staying there?

Godien fumes, "You and what army freak! I don't have to obey your orders!"

Ashin is glad that the big guy doesn't seem aggressive toward Shawna, at least. He's more worried about what stupid ideas the guards might take into their heads and act upon.

He hopes they don't do anything rash, but it's not looking good...

Shawna nodded slightly to the large man and stepped out of his way to stand in a fighting stance beside to him. It seemed like he knew what he was doing, and she would probably be in the way... besides, seeing him had just reminded her of the important thing that she had forgotten about herself....

She looked over at her companions, they seemed kinda angry, and she couldn't blame them, but maybe this would work out to their advantage.

Akijiu shook his head, looking concerned. This was foolish, she didn't have a weapon of any type, how did she plan to survive this? Akijiu clenched his fists, trying to decide what to do. Granted, the Guards looked like they were ready to break rank and run, but that one 'Godien' fellow, he looked angry, if the others ran, Akijiu was fairly certain this guy would attack anyways.

"Get out of there..." he mouthed.
