Since this sound is so well liked, I will try and find one even more entertaining. :D

Well; I heard a really unpleasant noise, and I spent half an hour prying the cat off the ceiling...

Is this the mosquito ringtone? I've heard, like, three different versions of it, and I can only hear two versions.

It is.

I have only heard this one so far.

Showed my mother the sound...or rather let her listen to it. She couldn't hear it and thought I was crazy.

Mosquito, definitely. Many classmates have it as a ringtone, and it makes my head hurt >.< (my hearing is too sensitive ...)
Funny enough, it doesn't work on my cellphone (Nokia 6670)

I never heard a mosquito that sounded like that...
They must have done something to the sound...

Or the Mosquito... (maybe it's a Were-Mosquito...or tax-collector)

I listened to it twice, but I didn't find it particularly annoying or painful. And my dog who is lying about ten feet from me didn't have a reaction to it at all either.

My typing teacher showed my class that a few years ago. She couldn't hear it, but we sure as hell could.

Irritating sound.

It's probably just the name, I don't think it has anything literally to do with mosquitoes, except that it's kind of annoying.

I played this one time and scared the crap out of my cat.

Yesterday somebody played a whitenoise over a real high volume at a local bar, and I almost got a black-out because of it. People seriously need to funk off with these things and its definately not funny.

Nope, making people get dizzy is not funny.

Have you heard about people do this at other locations?

It is actually the sound of a whistle used by the Police. The annoying high-pitched sound can be heard by teenagers (12-17) and young adults (18-32). It is used for riots and naughty kids who cause trouble. It's like a dog whistle for humans. The human teenager whistle are shaped like dog-whistles. Adults who are over the age of 40-60 could not hear it. I played this s*** next to her and my mom said, "I didn't hear anything."

I heard that sound too in some of the people's razor cell phones too. Then it is also called the the irritating mosquito ringtone.

Yes, and no I luckily haven't heard it in any other public location.

I heard it! I'm 34. It sounds like the background noise of my own brain when everything else is quiet. Not the low, rumbly part, from smooth muscle tensors on the tympanic membrane, but the high-pitched sound from the electrical activity of firing neurons. So much for the idea that only teens hear it. Those of us adults who haven't blown out our hearing at Def Leppard and Bon Jovi concerts back when we were teens must still have at least a little bit of the upper range left.

When I first read about this sound and how UK social places were using it to deter teenagers, only to have them respond with using the same concept for a generational gap ringtone, I figured that the same thing would happen in a world in which werewolves had gone public. I could easily see at least a few bigots or people just plain afraid of lycanthropic clientelle blasting the high frequency sound, outside of normal human hearing range but irritatingly loud to werewolves.
