DOS Wolf game: I found it!

I found it! The game that spawned the phrase "click here to mate"!

http://www.abandonia.com/games/531/Wolf.htm

That will get you the DOS program. It's abandonware, meaning that its original copyright holders are defunct. It may theoretically be considered pirated, but no one is around to sue, and there's no chance an official re-release will ever happen.

Now, you need a DOS emulator. If you don't already have one, Dosbox works quite well:

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net

Here's how you do it. (Experienced techies, please forgive the painfully obvious, but this will help even the casual computer user get up and running.)

1. Unzip the entire Wolf game contents into a folder. We'll save some typing by putting it in C:\WOLF.

2. Install and run Dosbox. It will create a DOS window, in the Z directory.

3. Type "mount C C:/WOLF" and press return, to create a virtual C drive containing the contents of the Wolf game folder.

4. Type "C:" and return to go into that drive.

5. Type "WOLF" to run the game, and voila!

Hmm..

I'll have to see if I can track it down...

My parents seem to have moved everything around down here (I'm visiting for a while). I'll have to wait until my sister gets home. She'll probably know where all the computer stuff went.

You play a wolf, doing what wolves do--hunting for food and water, and as you get experienced with the game, raising a pack.

Okay, I found it. Here are some scans:

My parents had it in a box out in the shed with a bunch of other computer things they cleared out of the house.

I have the game... I also had it in my really old computer... That comp didn't trouble me as much trying to run this game, of course :P

As Scott Gardener mentioned earlier, he has a version that came on a stack of floppies. I'm sure the game itself is identical between the two versions.

My sister bought it a few years ago for cheap on the bargain shelf at a store. I doubt it can be found at the store anymore. Windows doesn't even come with MS-DOS nowadays, so it can't effectively be sold -- even if it weren't the case that the original copyright holders are no longer around (as was mentioned at the beginning of this thread).

I bought it nine years ago. It's been out of print a long time.

Played it some, kinda fun, even for a Sim. :D

Theres a certain nostalgia to playing old games like this, even if when the game was actually sold and not abbadonware i was either not born or very young.

Grrrr...so far I haven't been able to bring down anything but a beaver and a rabbit. The deer, caribou, moose, and bison all elude me....

Hmmmm...if I recall...it takes more than one wolf to bring down an animal larger than itself. The wolves need to work as a team. I don't think a single wolf can take down a full grown bison by himself.

So I guess they implemented it into that game.
